Some people look at fish as simply decorations, and others see them as living things with needs that deserve to be met. I personally do not care for the first kind of fishkeeper and would rather not even know about them.

This thread is getting out of hand fast...Makoa;4315457; said:I enjoy my fish as much as most people do on here. Just because I'm not financially able to get a 300+ gallon tank and afford all of the expensive filtration to go along with it I am not allowed to be able to enjoy this hobby? Isn't this site for people to want to express their opinions and show their passion for keeping fish? I didn't know I had to rich to enjoy this hobby.
jimmie1974;4315385; said:this isnt intended for anyone so dont take it that way. You will notice on this site there is a ton of competition, of quote, who has the biggest tank. Alot of these guys eventually get out of the hobby. But in all honestly, like I said earlier, chances are you will not have your pbass when it gets to that point of worrying about a bigger tank. 9 out of 10 of us get rid of our fish, sell them etc. because we want newer stock. Its the same with the species, theres competition of who has the rarest too. Everything that was said on this topic about water etc., take it all in, because he's right. But like I said, chances are you wont have them at 16", they will have been long gone either because you sold them, they died or whatever the case may be. Just dont bicker with some of these guys and listening too you need 300 gallons right now, because you dont. Your 100 is fine for now.
Jesus I hate this forum sometimes......

Cross127;4315499; said:Ok you are definately aloud to enjoy the hobby but if there's financial limits theres limits to your hobby as with ANY hobby that I know of. Like for example I restore cars as a past time. If i see a car( in this case a Peacock bass) that I WANT SOOO bad and it's affordable to buy ( as PBASS are) but the parts are hard to find and expensive( the equipment in this example like filter, tank etc) and I will end up dumping a fortune that i dont have to get it going. Do I buy the car?? No because i can't provide anything for it or adequate parts to get it running. sort of like the pbass ( car) but cant get the tank ( parts for the car)
So my question can i now ENJOY this beat up cheap 1970 dodge challenger ,we will say, and restore it? ( as parts are expensive ) No because finances wont allow to buy parts.

Makoa;4315522; said:LOL alright so I have a beat up car (tank) with jacked up parts (Pbass) and the car can't run because I can't afford proper tune up (Filters), BUT I still enjoy enjoy the car (tank) the parts (fish) and the essentials (Filters). Point me into the poor man's Pbass forum then!

It really doesn't matter what kind, or how many filters you are running, that can never make up for the fact that you only have 100 gals. of water in your tank. Large fish will foul such a small volume of water fairly quickly, less than a day, even though a hobby test kit will show that your water is "perfect". Unless you are doing daily, or every other day water changes, which almost no one does, you don't have optimum water conditions in that small of a tank. It's just simple science. Larger tanks hold larger volumes of water, which dilute pollutants, and keep your water cleaner longer. Many people assume their fish are fine because they are alive and eating, and their cheap $25 test kits tell them their water is fine. In fact, their fish may be under stress that inhibits growth, reduces color, and shortens the fish's lifespan. A lot of people never learn this.
