The tank came. So, time to set up... again
I had to remove the molding to take the other tank off and put this one on more easy. This time, I remembered to put some foam down. So here was the tank on the stand after cleaning it. God I hate cleaning used tanks.
So I cut the foam down to size and decided to put some gravel in it. Now first, I put egg crate down for a couple reasons. First, I will probably put some cichlids in there and they love to move around stuff. Having a rock fall because they moved the gravel and hit the bottom would not be cool. Second, it takes up space, so the gravel I have goes a longer way. I bought this gravel about 2 years ago. 2 5 gallon buckets for 20 bucks. Not a bad deal at all lol. I will say I need some more, but it will due for now. Just enough.
Time for some water. Hooked the ol' python up (after having to use channel locks to get the damn piece off of the sink) and stared filling. Took forever... the poor guest bath sink doesn't pump out water fast.
Still filling and decided it was a good time to paint the back black. This time, instead of brush, I wised up and used a damn roller. Took about the quarter of the time. Also painted the foam black. Why? Because if you get close to the tank and look down, behind the crown you will see a tad bit of the foam. And it would drive me nuts if it was blue lol
Tank filled and I put the bottom molding back on. After putting two more coats on the back of the tank, I put the filters on. The far left filter is my first filter I ever got. Penguin Bio wheel (can't remembr the specific size) that I used on my first tank, a 50 gallon. 11 years later it is still running strong. It has been on for 11 years straight, except for the last couple months when I moved. The far right is a new Penguin (350 I think) I had on my 75 gallon. It is 2 years old. The middle is a brand new Emp . FOR NOW, along with the in-tank UV I have, is what will filter the tank. Once a get some more money and the stock gets heavier, I will put a canister on there. But for now it will suffice (barely). Two of the heaters are on the lids. Need to get a third one, but the house temperature is over 80 so its not a concern ATM. I am using 3 smaller heaters just in case one goes bonkers, it won't have the power to boil the tank.
I still need to clean the lids (tomorrows project). I also put the driftwood I had in the tank. The light on the tank is just the light I had on my 75. THe lights for this tank should be here Thursday.
Last thing for today... all the driftwood comes from old tanks except the big one that has been in the garage waiting for a tank big enough to house it and not look stupid. Unfortunately... it no longer sinks. Gonna have to find some way to weigh it down but it is a nice piece of wood. Some bottom feeder is going to have a fun time hiding in there and me never seeing it lol
Now I wait. I am hopefully getting some fish tomorrow. Hoping the water clears overnight (dirty gravel and wood and tank, only so much you can clean in an apartment).
