180 Gallon Start-Up Thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the comments guys. I haven't gotten the pictures up I promised because I have been insanely busy and my family is still in town for a couple more days and I have been with them as much as possible. Once everyone is gone I promise more frequent updates until I run out of money haha.

I just bought a 90 gallon tank that is covered with salt sediment. I got it clean, but there is still a haze on the glass. How did you get rid of that?

I used water with a hose, then bleach, then rinse, then vinegar, then rinse myself.

nice! what will the stock be? what will the filtration be?

I don't know concrete answer to either of those questions, especially stocking. Stocking is so far away that I haven't sat down and thought really hard about it.

The only thing for sure is that I will at least have one cichlid in there... I miss their personality.

I keep looking at getting an oscar, either a red or a wild one. My wife likes them, they are easy to care for, and they grow really fast which I like. That is probably the closest fish I have "decided" on and even that could change at any instant. I have also looked at odoe pikes, pike cichlids, various sev species, ect.

I have been looking at fire eels but I don't know if I want to deal with having a fish I have to tear the tank apart to find. Could also go clown knife or a catfish species for the bottom. idk

Filtration wise... I have the 2 filters from my other two tanks I took down (350 bio wheels) and I when I get around to it I will buy an Emp or AC 110 and then I will either have a sump or a large canister to go with it. Mostly likely canister... I don't want ot mess with a sump I don't think. So in the end probably the 2 biowheels, an emp, canister, and 1-2 in tank uv sterilizers. But I don't know... that is what is stopping water getting in the tank now... I don't have the money to afford the canister atm.

Man that was a long response that really didn't answer your questions at all hahaha

Any updates on this one? Got any pics?;)
