As mentioned pictus prefer groups of 6 or more. If you want a single cat look at p. Ornatus. It's the bigger cousin to the pictus and does ok as a single.

If you want the Firemouths you should get a few sixish like the Pictus they like to be in groups.

So you could go with your two fish and add a p. Ornatus snd 6 Firemouths. Maybe some Congo tetras as dithers.

I only want about 6-8 more congos and i dont think i want the catfish anymore, i really want a black ghost knife and eel or ropefish.

Could i do the stock above?

I have never had any of those, eel, black knife fish, or ropefish so have no clue how they would react to the stocking you have going.

With the stock above if I switch out the jd for something else what would be a nice substitute? Maybe a Vieja? Or something else?

I would not do a vieja with those other fish, they are generally real aggressive and grow very large.

Okay, what do you think would be a nice substitute for the JD? It has to be something common. So far the stock is

6 Firemouths
6-8 Congo Tetras
2-3 Bichirs

I wouldn't substitute anything for the JD, since you added 6 firemouths. If your going to do 6 FM's I might leave the salvini out as well personally. Firemouths are all bark no bite, and salvini are pretty mean.
