Whoa. Can you explain this further? I have 2 siphon drains into one gate valve. Mine is silent, but it does make noise if the gate is not set right. Interesting thing is, I've never been able to figure out where the noise (air) comes from. It's not getting sucked into the siphon drain in the overflow box. I've checked for air leaks in the pipe under the tank. Never did figure it out.....I'm wondering if it has something to do with tying two drains together, or the long horizontal run before the gate valve.

Once I got mine running quiet, I just forgot about it. But, I'd like to know more about this whole tying drains together thing. Some say never do it. Others say it's no problem, it's the better way.

How or why would one siphon drain draw air if their tied together?

Jaws has it sorted and I don't want to derail his thread. The short version is: no two lines (unless an even, vertical drop) are the same and can cause the intakes to operate at different levels and speed. If that is the case, one will always force the other to balance itself out either periodically or constantly (hence the open channel suggestion) which is why it will pull air from one side. In your case it's likely pulling air at the intake balancing out and not the plumbing or it would leak. It may be constant which would be an issue but if only intermittent it is no big deal. It won't impact a whole lot in most setups and J jaws7777 looks like it will be fine. I have a tank with a full siphon, open channel and emergency line without an overflow box and have tried a lot of techniques before I figured it out.

Im hoping if i mark it up enough it will work out fongers crossed

One thing that helps me is gluing to unions and then assembling larger pieces via the unions after the pieces are all glued. It lets you test fit a lot more and a sure you are happy with the fit before continuing. Those are really handy to have a few of. I have a few of those flex connectors around as well.

Man i need two bushings aaagghh ! Back to lowes !

So the unions and loosening then retightening the bulkhads made aligning the siphon drains to the gate easy....a little too easy hope its the same when intake it apart and glue it.

I find true union ball valves are good to have...not that there's any problem with what you have now. It's just added flexibility and a valve.

Is the stand powder coated?

Well I can see how that would happen, and the two siphons do drain at slightly different rates. But.....the intake on both siphon drains is under 6 inches of water. No whirlpool. So I can't see how air is getting in without me seeing it.

I've never understood that. If pipes aren't leaking, and there's no whirlpool at the intake.....then the siphon can't be taking in air.

Right?

I can't answer your question. I have it too lol... Your pipe outlet is below the water surface like mine, I assume? If so the best I can think of is it is causing a venturi effect and the air is being pulled into it and sent downward.

J jaws7777 your setup is looking sweet. Keep the pics coming please. I'm getting inspired to get off my butt and go finish a tank or two!

Uggh ! I may have an issue and did exactly what i wasnt supposed to do...rushed. the left siphon drain is a little less than a quater inch lower than rhe right side. You mentioned that both draons had to be equal distances so am i gonna have constantly changing levels in the overflow ? Damn

I postioned everyrhing so that i can swicth to 2 gates but would need to cut the two bulkheads out. I have two spares

Yes
Looking great. Make sure you mark your pipe before you take apart your mock up and glue, so you can get the correct angle on any turns.

Yeah thats how i did it but looks like i screwed up lol
