330 gallon setup and sump build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For the Herbie, adding a strainer to the full siphon could be beneficial. Just cut PVC down enough to add strainer.
There is supposed to be a strainer on the bulkhead closest to the center of the tank. I put a section of pipe in there to prevent the water from going down the pipe and to just keep it in the overflow box itself to leak test my new bulkhead. Once I push it back to the wall strainers going back in!

Well good update! Good to see its not leaking again keeping my fingers xed. You don't have to buy anything super expensive when I was polishing that big tank I refinished I used micro fiber towels that the the local autoparts stores put on sale almost monthly during the summer. They are really soft. If I had one up and running though id get one of the lees sponges myself id be afraid id get it in the sand and ruin all my hard work (because that's what I do....lol). Plus I like to keep the sponge of that tank with that tank in a small container and they are usually smaller hand sized just easier to deal with. I use acrylic lees sponges on my glass tanks now.

think your fingers xed gave it that extra boost to not leak lol. I didnt even think about the micro fiver towels that would be a good idea. I just need something to clean off all the pond scum thats built up from the water sitting unfiltered for the last couple days. Looks gross

So we are officially up and running! Water is still cloudy from filling and aging bio matrix. Hopefully will clear out soon. Pumps are pretty damn quite I'm actually impressed. Still tweaking the gate valve back and forth to try and find the sweet spot. Didn't realize how sensitive it really is. Going to start the cycling process. Wish I had some cycled media already to skip all this nonsense.

Pipes are a little loud with the water running through it. Going to be interesting trying to fall asleep with it running in the room. Hopefully that gets better once I come up with a plan to wrap the stand
