Yeah no problem, I wish I had soft water, currently working on setting up a 40 gallon breeder and wanted to do a blackwater setup with apistos, but water is super hard here so back to Africans I go.

Gonna be pretty white n bright n the tank - any tips of something dark to break up all the white and tan?

How do they do with live plants? Suppose plastic could be good too...

What have you decided to stock the tank with?
Something along the lines of .

4f/1m x 5 species as recommended above

If you are going with mbuna, I would skip the plants and use "real" holey rock or other rocks. The fake ones are hollow inside and do not provide all the nooks and crannies that a stack of real rocks would provide. One male will want to claim the entire inside of each piece.

Let the fish be your colors. What are you doing for a background? You know the white holey rocks will not stay white, right?

Have not chosen exact fish yet, but rare and colorful are good! Another member made suggestion above, that’s probably where I’ll start.

Background most likely that vinyl roll out stuff... not sure which setting...

I looked at the holey rock in Petco, seemed real... I ordered 4 large pieces. Comes in a few days, I did not know it doesn’t stay white.
