Precisely why they are only banning toothy fishes, like how they've banned dogs with extremely aggressive temperaments and the capability to rip your throat out. Imagine the outcry from S'poreans and even organizations all over the world if the AVA decides to "Oh, let's ban fishes cos' they've got scales". Don't get me wrong though Michel, although i've got not much of an interest in the fishes that will now be outlaws in a country with "too much" law, i'm just saying the government has a reason behind every law they pass out, no matter how small and stupid it may be. I'm angry that their doing this but from a "parental point" of view, one would rather not have a snake at home than keeping it and risking the chance of a child getting bitten. What i'm really bummed out about is the fact that many LFS owners will be affected. The industry isn't very easy and the banning of these fishes will only make things worse.

Facepalm.....

There are more methods that are most fishkeeping-friendly. They can just increase security at reservoirs or simply just ban people from entering them altogether. I suggest only opening the reservoir to public at a fixed time like 8am-8pm. Banning those fish should be a last resort. If those fish are endangered, I can understand. But heck those toothy species ain't even endangered. Guess the government rather be hated than spend more resources on those methods. Kind of make sense since we can't do **** about it anyway. Even protesting requires permission... :WTF: That is like saying "Ok you can do it, but with approval first" and approval never comes... So much for listening to the people.

PS: I know where my vote will go during the next election.

You must look at it from the government's point of view Ryan! It's easier for someone up there to say, "Okay, i want all Gars and fishes from the Piranha family banned" than to exhaust taxpayer's money to hire guards and increase security cos' we need all that money for upgrades cos' apparently we "don't have enough" funds. What a joke this all is. If they're so unhappy with LFS earning money, just ban all them Arowana farms then. The government hates it when their peasants have cash.

He is the Opposition Party.

Don't get me wrong christian. Opposition is required in any discussion.
If all of us are shooting the government down, this would just be a flame thread.

yet to see any black and white on this...seems the supposed date of implementation is 1st June

You're obviously not reading enough sir. I've said my part about the issue, given my own opinions and at the same time shooting down the AVA's decision to ban these marvelous fishes. So you tell me ;)

I am the Opposition Party my friend! I am shooting down the government. I'm not defending their decision, i frown upon it. All i've said is just to try and give an insight into why they're banning it because for every issue, there has to be a reasonable issue as to why the AVA does the things it does. I feel they're approaching this "toothy" situation from the wrong perspective but surely something must have forced their hand, however unreasonable their solution to it is. I'll never support the current government, not unless they give everyone 10ft tanks and free parking!

I find it pretty intriguing that the AVA has moved so fast on this issue. It usually takes the government awhile before they get up off their high horses and do something. Surely something major happened or is on the way. Have you called them up to inquire, Alex?

This don't make sense at least make them tagged like Aros
Or even a partial ban to the cheaper species like the Floridas and Gators
