I would get a larger tank as soon as possible. You can get 55 gallons for really cheap, you could keep them in there for awhile although it's still not the ideal long term set up.
Brand new would be ideal but not necessary. If you get a used one it's important to leak test it and make sure the silicone looks okay. Youtube how to buy a used tank and there's more than likely a bunch of good videos.

When you have time go to forum Ancient fish polypterus and learn from experienced members who keep this awesome species. Btw make sure you keep your aquarium water lowered about 2 inches so that the polys can get air just in case you didn't know this.
