I understand your point but people are going to purchase and keep whatever it is that they want and can get so you need to realize that and get over what others have in their tanks. What do you keep by the way?

Unfortunately, we can only spread knowledge and educate people. It is up to them to make their own decision. There is only so much that you can do.

Ya, 4 setups out of how many?

THe only reason I was even able to have my Atlantic Sturgeon is because it was part of a state program and when he got too big I could give him back, and he would in 10 years help save the species in the wild.

i completely %100 agree with you
the point was some people can house them.

How many people need 20 feet tall dump trucks? the answer is not alot but they should still sell for people that need them.

how many times do you see a gigas at a pet store? i have never seen one, im pretty sure most of the colossal fish a relegated to special orders.

its not the fault of the suppliers that sell them but the uniformed hobbiest and profit hungry pet stores. if your pet store sells and stocks fish like that commonly go speak with them.

i keep mostly cichlids, oscars, severums, chocolate cichlid, ghost knife, bichirs, syno cats, pike cichlids, african knives, i have three tanks running now, 60, 75, and 125 with a 240 coming, nothing to big i cant keep

i guess i just think with fish, or other giant animals, you should really be required to have a permit, that someone has come to your house and made sure you can properlly house them, just the real giants mind you, no permits on oscars or anything, anythign that can get over four or five feet in my opinion, should require a permit, not that i think thats ever gonna happen though lol

i could see permits working, but then you have to decide on or create a body responsible for over seeing it. while your at it you can add permits for asian aro's(for hobbyiest breeding efforts of course ), piranhas, and other fish that have been banned in certain areas. :D

i think as of right now permits aren't there for a animals sake, but for peoples sake.

i know, thats why i said, not like i thinks thats ever gonna happen

gator gar dont get 13ft. not even in the wild.
5 ft in captivity. so actually its very possible to house one.
so there you go. you were just educated. how about you learn the actual sizes of the fish that your telling people they cant house properly??
so who gets to decide whats too big? fact of the matter is most people cant even house a pacu properly. do u tell them off?

Permits won't do as much good as people would hope, it would just drive them to the black market like everything that's banned. I think short-sightedness is to blame, a lot of people who get these fish know well and good they won't be able to house it down the road. Some don't and those are the ones that educating would help, only problem is you'd have to tell them before they buy it.
