How about the urban legend about the girl who has the pet snake, who let the snake sleep with her, then stopped eating, and was stretched out on the bed. She calls the vet and he informs her that the snake is fasting and stretched out to size her up(seeing if it can fit her inside it)
And tells her "Get out ASAP, it wants to kill you!"

Every time i tell someone I own a python (A ball python) they tell me this ridiculous tale I inform them nothing about that is true, makes no sense and that my python is extremely calm and a great pet,

In which I get, well what does it eat?... With a discussed look on their face

There is no appealing to most people with fact, they all want fiction

hahahaha dammit u beat me to it!!!

even my mum tells people thats its stupid and explains the facts when she tells them i have snakes and gets that answer.

i just find it amusing now.
i explain to the ignorant and invite them round to see the collection and usually they end up leaving educated and amazed they have finally gotten over their fear of snakes.

lol anyone heard the:
"my friends friends/aunt/aunts bf/cousin/friend of a friend of a friend of a friend etc had this 16ft corn/royal/boa/anaconda/burmese (for some people dont know about retics??? lol) and it starved itself for 3 months, before it end up in bed beside them.
so they took it to the vets and the vet said "its starving itself so it can fit u in and when it lies next to u its sizing u up"
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
i LOVE hearing that one. heard it 5 times in one pub one night. but no matter how u tell them that its a lie they always fight back with "my mate had a cobra! how would u know"
over here cobras are an impossibility unless u have 50k lying around lol
then they go on to tell u how my burm (or any other snakes iv let on that i own) will kill me with his venom if he was to bite me and then eat me!

im shaking in my boots.
Confronted by that I would start by insulting and saying bad words to the person itself, if it didnt work I would then proceed to say bad things about its family, how its parents were very likely brother and sister, etc:ROFL::grinno:

With all the people that end up coming to my house because of this I really should just open a zoo. It's funny so many people want to see my bird, pet him, etc. But are afraid of my snakes. I'm more afraid of my bird or mice biting me than any of my snakes.

lol yea. i just picked up a tarantula and no way do i get her out lol
im petrified of her but the snakes are fine and thats what people find wierd.
im also petrified of foxes...which people find hilarious.

i dont insult people, just try and educate them...if the educating works i tell the to Foxtrot Oscar (polite terms)...technically not an insult lol
people only want to listen to what they want to.

Education would be best. But some things really get on my nerve. Genocidal thoughts thereafter. XD.

Yes. It's getting very tiresome. When I tell people I keep snakes, they usually respond with "Why?" then they resort to giving me the "Well I saw that they are taking over FL, etc." then when you tell them that you keep/want to keep hots (venomous snakes for all of you non-herpetoculturalists) and it then turns in to "What the .... is a matter with you? You're stupid! You have a death wish!"

I try to educate them but, sometimes, it is impossible to educate the extremely ignorant.

I educate where and when I can but some people are beyond wanting to learn. I normally aim for educating kids. They are usually more open and curious about it then adults who are set in their ways.

I know for me, I am very afraid of clowns and do not know why anyone would want to ever see one. If one got out of the ring at the circus and came towards me I would have to kill it. I think it says this in the bible.
