Hi, I'm looking for some ideas on what is going on with my fish tank. My Amonina levels are terrible. I haven't bean able to keep them at 0ppm at all. The nitrite and nitrate are at 0ppm but the amonina keeps spiking. I keep three freshwater stingrays in a 230 gallon fish tank. Two are bigger rays and i have one smaller ray as well. I have two eheim that are rateted for 500+ gallons also have a eheim pro 3 rated at 160 gallons and an fx6 fulval rated for 400 gallons. The fx6 is full to the top with media and the 2 eheim 500 gallon has about 9 lt of media in them. The meadi is the pro 2 substrate from eheim. The media in the fx6 is mixed media not to sure what brand it is. I think there is three different types in it. And i also have what ever media comes in the pro 3. Also have a bottle of purigen inside the pro3. I do a water change everyday but i have no luck trying to keep the Amonina at 0ppm. Does anyone have an idea wbat to do?

Your system may have to much fish in it, depending on the size of the rays

Whats ur feeding schedule? Treating with a dechlorinator? Testing with a updated liquid kit? What’s ur tap water parameters?

Only feeding a few by hand to each of them smelts and the shrimps i put a small hand full in. I make sure they eat it all in 10 mins or i take it out due to my problem. Water test kit expires 12/2021 its api. And tap water primters I'm not sure of. I treat with prime.I had this tank running for over a year with no problems but than this Amonina spike happend. And it killed three rays that i had in the tank with my male pearl. The pearl survived. Than i got one eheim classic the 500gallon thinking it was due to lack of filter power.

Might be the smelt, theres something wrong with smelt, why some of us stopped feeding with smelt

Would cut ur feedings down. Unfortunately rays produce a lot of waste. Keep testing and water changes. Can u setup a drip system?

I also have verry little sand in the tank to avoid dead

Ok i'll try to cut back on the feedings but like i said i dont feed much already due to this spike in amoinima. But may i ask what a drip system is. I'm thinking i may go bigger on the tank and sump it and keep the two eheim 500 gallons on as well.
