ok use a zebra and let it run through the place. Thats not the point i was getting at its that people can do what ever they want as long as they feel its humane such as locking animals in zoo's, its not but we do it. Oh and yes i do feed my fish live fish all the time yesturday my peacock bass ate 30-40 Jaguar ciclids for supper. Thats what i do because its natural. I tried feeding them lettuce and no go....?

lol yeah I know what you mean... still you'd need to have a very large area to allow something like that to hunt... it's like feeding something in a box, prey can't escape so it's never the same.

It also depends on your attitude to zoos... cruel keeping them or as educational tools, a means of studying the animals themselves and for conservational purposes. It will always depend on how the institution is run as to how effective it is though... this particular zoo doesn't sound like it's making too much difference, but as it's media... wouldn't know what is embelished or what any of the good things are about it.

Well, that would be cruel, as these lions have not been taught to hunt, and would take much, much longer to kill it.. They are taught how to kill by their parents, I highly doubt the zookeepers taught them how to stalk and kill a zebra ;)

I don't think feeding small fish to a big fish is the same as tossing a zebra into a lion's cage who doesn't know how to properly kill it.

is it not done because it gives them a sense of power?Just wondering.Seems out side of food source, its the only other reason men kill animals.Im not talking about regular hunting wich i have mixed opinions on,but say your out shooting and a dog or rabbit or kangaroo whatever runs by and they just have to shoot it and they dont even want it.Or the ppl that try to run down cats or dogs.Ive seen it.When i was 16 or so a freind of mine was mad at my dog because it walked in front of him so he kicked it in the face.I slapped him back in the mouth and that was the end of that.Im just thinking what is it with ppl over their and some here that crave that power so bad and actually fulfill it with these acts.I wouldn't honestly want one to fall in,but i would love to see the transition on ones face from excitement to the sheer terror look if they almost fell in.Its all so weak to me.

Something i didn't see mentioned. Look at it from the lions point of veiw, this is probably the best part of their day. Don't feel like going into detail so peace.

Everything else aside, morals, etc.

this is simply barbaric plain and simple

Right or wrong is up for debate, but the main reason why it brings up trouble is that it is barbaric and does not fit in with 21th century civilized society. Now the greater question is whether the general Chinese civilization as a whole is like this, which is what most people are trying to lump it together with along with their past bias of Chinese, especially in early US history and even now

I really honestly wonder about some of you that can't figure out the difference between dropping a minnow into a fish tank with a large predator fish and dropping a live goat off of a wall into a pride of lions to be mostly played with and ripped apart, perhaps not even eaten.

Also, the fact that they would tie turtles heads so they can't retreat into their shell and people can throw coins on them? No modern society would see that as anything but wrong.

Not too far back in America's history we were doing similar, and as people became more understanding towards other creatures we saw how barbaric that kind of stuff is.

So all the arguments about predator fish/feeders aside, these zoos are sick. That's all I have to say.

I have no problem with feeding live prey if the animal know's how to kill the prey efficiently (ie know how to hunt) but looking at those lion's i think there seem's to be far to many in the same enclosure,I know there social cat's but not that social. The thing that disturb's me is the fact that it's all about pleasing the sick spectator's not keeping the animal's healthy. And the tortoise torture well it just makes me sick.It still amazes me that a country that treat's it's animal's so badly and is not that bothered about people knowing is holding the olypic games. It's a shame cos i think it look's an amazing country.

I CANNOT wait until one of those idiots falls over the railing, perhaps on of the kids. But i can only assume the responsible zoo staff is sitting there with automatic weapons just in case. Seriously, what the F*CK?
