I came across this during a recent stroll through Chinatown. It was in one of those tourist gift shops and I paid more for it than I should have but I liked it's shape.

Nice,is it always up above the water like that?
I fill it up to the top about once a month... They're tidal plants, so it seems to do well getting soaked then slowly drying out.

That's cool.I have wanted to try a mangrove plant since I saw them growing in a lagoon years ago.

Neat little juniper Rich.

What's everyone doing for soil? Most of my trees are going to get repotted in the spring/summer of 2018 and am thinking of doing a potting mix/fine gravel/pumice rock mix.

Thanks Mike.I'm contemplating transplanting it to either a bigger pot or into the ground somewhere in my yard so it can grow a little bigger and then placing it in a "display pot" after it's thickened up some.
I have been sticking with the mix that the nursery stock comes potted in for now.I would like to order some premade bonsai soil eventually.

Buying premade seems unnecessary. The raw ingredients are cheap. Most guys use an organic component, something for water retention, and something for drainage, plus a little charcoal for chemical balancing. I figure $50 would yield enough materials to repot my entire collection in big pots.
