anyone ever ate their pet fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Seen a guy try to fillet a Saratoga, same as an Aro. Can't be done, skin them and hang them to dry. Still taste like **** and full of bones.

true story, when i was young, like 7 years old, had a 55g with three 10" tinfoil bards. one jumped out of the bucket upon moving the setup to our new house. next morning dug a grave for him in the backyard but couldn't find the dead fish anywhere. to my horror I seen my grandmother reach into the frig and pull out a cleaned/scaled tinfoil bard. I screamed as she slides it into a pan of sizzling oil. I laugh at the story now but I was traumatized then. haha, yes im filipino and grandma always thought we was raising the fish in the tank to eat haha. rest her soul

lol filipino grandmas are the best!! :D

roflmao... heck no.. I do threaten my Oscar with this all the time.. But the temps we keep out fish in.. and the warmer the water.. the simple fact aquarium water quality can't compete with native waters. except in some rare instances. The medacines I use to treat diseases having cancer causing carcinagins. And the fact I'm very picky about my fish as is. Only eating personally caught walleye 'n pike out of a glacial lake thats spring fed. lol. Though I bet I could prolly clean an Arrowana.. Northern Pike are a Pita to clean 'n pull the Y bone outta :hitting:

I had a friend that bought a pacu with the intention to eat it. The LFS actually recommended it to us for when it got to big for its tank. They even gave us tips on how to prepare it. I guess they taste best grilled, LOL. He never did eat it though. It died of unknown causes so he didn't wanna risk it.

I have two, 20" Silvers in my freezer, fresh frozen whole...1 is untouched and 1 has had basic autopsy performed to see what was the cause of death.
Only looks like princess cut.
I'm assuming ph error killed them, no outwardly signs of disease.
no other tankmates compromised

Anybody know what Aro taste like?
