What if they r kept in a small tank for long! Like there are people who keep goldfish in a pot! I personally know a guy who had a goldfish for nearly 2 years in the same tank at the same size! Would it also be same with these beasts

Then they certainly won't live to max size, and won't live long either

Oh I even heard the lfs guy telling that these arapaimas in aquarium don't live longer as they are given small place he was like they can live in the 500gallon aquarium for 7-8yrs max!

This is a common theme for large growing fish. Whether intentional or not people frequently underestimate growth and max size of fish. Some of it is from people trying to make a sale, some from stunting and some from those who just don't know any better. Given proper conditions many of the monsters we keep grow very large.
