I run a company, sits on government boards, win awards, things that my family and friends think is what a life should be, don't be fooled. Fish keeping is the only thing that keeps me balanced, sane, (and pays for my hobby) it's like a kind of meditation for me. When I do my fish things, people around me don't understand... they think I am fooling around, wasting my time. None of my family or friends do this, so it's kinda lonely. They do the "serious", "important" stuff, which I think it's a BIG lie. I have always just visit this site and read the post, hardly post. But especially this couple of weeks, when I am at my lowest, I feel that there are people here, whom I have never met, have things more in common with me than the people in the environment I am living in. This is like a sanctuary to me.
Are people taking this hobby to seriously?

i take my gar to the extreme. no other aspect of the hobby. but i do it cause gar are the reason im in monsterfish. other than that no biggie. they are a serious wow fish

This is the disease that is killing the hobby, not the seriousness about the fish. True serious fishkeepers frequent the more professional boards. And come here on occasion.

Don't do it....keep the secret professional forums to yourself. You don't want some of the MFK posters bringing drama to the professional boards.

I love it, water changes, re-decorating my tank everything about it makes me happy. I throw alot of money twards it because its my love, I'm going to school for marine bioloigy so hopefully someday I can make money from my love, whether it be working at a nice LFS or working for seaworld... Either way for me it being happy is they key to life. And I found fish are my happiness, I setup my larges tank right in front of the couch and I sit down and watch the fish channel everyday it keeps me sane.
