arowana scared

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
man i am very dissapointed if this continues for a long time i may give up on keeping silver arowana and try a jardi or Asian arowana

though they are very very expensive here
3-4" of 1900$ single piece only

Maybe the water condition is the problem. How long has your tank been setup? What are your current levels of ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH?

This is generally the answer given by someone who doesn't know what their water params actually are.

What was the tank stock before the arowana? How long did the tank sit without fish before you got the aro?

If you're in Texas like your profile says than it is illegal to own Asian Arowanas as they are illegal in the U.S. That is the reason why they are so expensive. Though that price is nothing compared to the fine you'll get along with any possible jail-time if you get caught. ;)

That's why I said "If you're in Texas like your profile says". I'm not on here nearly long enough to read all the posts so srry about the mix-up.

Anyway, Listen to Bderick67, he knows his stuff. Since we got a little side-tracked here, I'll repeat his questions:

What was the tank stock before the arowana? How long did the tank sit without fish before you got the aro?

Also can you give us some more specific numbers in regards to your water parameters?

i was living near palestine in Texas
two pair of oscars
and the tank has not been vacant till the time when i added arowana

Hey, I have a skittish silver arowana and I read somwhere if you are in the tank cleaning or somthing to slowly pet the arowana for some time and it will get used to you. I have pet mine a couple times but doesnt seem to work.

I put a background on three corners of the tank, That was about a week ago and he seems to be scared. And since he never awnsered I tell you about mine.

Mine just hit about 9 inches and is in a ninty gallon tank. I plan on getting at least double that when I catch the tax return to try and give him more space. He is in with a big gold fish about 6 inches active but doesnt seem to bother him. about a 7 inch vampire tetra, 4 inch leaf fish, and about a 7 inch shovelnose cat.

water is at ph-7.2 A-0 N-0 BUT nitrate is at about a whoping 20 I think and I have been doing small water changes to try and bring that back down, didnt really so about 2 days ago I got a nitrate reducer i stuck it in the filter. If I can stay out of the tank a few weeks i think he'd like that.

Hed em about 3 months from 3 inches.
