  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey guys I will be collecting 5 of these baby blue azul bass tomorrow which are like an inch each...

I always struggle to keep them alive when small...What’s the best care for them so I won’t lose any?

TIA

Keep thier temp at 86 degrees. i suggest frozen bloodworms mixed with frozen brine shrimp.

Yep and since you have a group of them and they will be trying to out eat one another, try tossing small sinking pellets in the tank to get them started on pellet training.

how often? I normally do 30% twice a week

With small Cichla I do about 10% each day, they are sensitive for big waterchanges when small. Sometimes I will skip a day (or 2) without problems

When really small I put them in my guppy tank with 250-300 guppys, they are way to small to eat the adult guppy's but they will enjoy the new born ones and grow fast. Needless to say that the guppy's will have to be healthy!

When they are around 3-4 inches they move to a growout tank, and i feed them smelt (cut in smal pieces), bloodworms (frozen) and start pellet training them by throwing in some Hikari pellets.
Raised 15 cichla till now (3x 5) and haven't lost a single one

The Azuls I raised were 3 cm (1,2 inch) when I bought them, 7-8 weeks later they were around 14 cm (5,5 inch)

They were eating pellets in the store so horpefully they will stick to that...If not does blood worms help with growth by any chance?

That’s fine no need to change the water every day as long as your parameters are good. Just make sure they eat all the food and your not leaving any un-eatin food in the water. They will grow fast at that size just like any other P, try to convert them over to pellets ASAP as it will only get harder the larger they grow.

I heard blood worms are like candy for them and has no nutritional value...That true?
