Beginning of a New Fishroom

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Congrats on your success. This set-up looks great!. Kudos.
Question though. Wouldn't plain empty tanks (no gravel and plants) be easier to maintain?
I know it may make the fish more "comfortable" but in the long run, its a lot more work siphoning gravel. A naked bottom of the tank would be a snap to keep clean.
Just curious why you went that route?
Please enlighten me, as I am a newbie. Thanks.

I thought my neighbor buddy might entertain getting into this field (breeding) since he can't seem to get a job since he was laid off and the entry level cost can sometimes be quite low, as you are finding out. This is good stuff.

Awesome Setup - But agree, it would be better to have lesser decor in their, if you are breeding cleanliness is important. Especially with discus

We picked up a second rack! Exactly the same, just a bit more dirty...:( More work, but no biggie... So again we got 9 tanks, hoods, lights, plumbing and the rack to hold it all for $300... This one will be a little more expensive since we have exhausted some of our previous resources.. But not by much..

So next is cleaning and scaling the tanks, sanding and staining the stand. replacing all the screws with decking screws (a lot were very rusty last time), tinting the back of the tanks (window tint works badass, we used "smokey" from the H depot), cleaning / finishing the plumbing (replacing the "outs" with all new tubing and connecting to the main drain. And build the sump. A good amount of work.. It'll take a week or so due to time and job..

Also, had some eggs!!! The Red Dragon and Blue Diamond discus laid eggs, but all proved infertile. As well as another pair.. Not a bad sign though. But my buddy's Red Dragon free swimmers are getting big!! Already on baby brine shrimp and first bites.. Still with the parents. Continuous water changes.. The plan is to put the accomplished parents in the middle tank and the 2 inexperienced pairs on either side. This way they can learn from their elders and hopefully produce a successful spawn.. Only time will tell, so keep watching! New fish will be available in a few months!!!
