Beginning of a New Fishroom

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We found the great deal on craigslist... There's lots of good deals on there. One mans junk is another mans treasure.. And as for the rams. Yes we are trying electric blues, but first a have a gorgeous pair of Bolivian Rams that look like they're gonna do it. So we will see.. Always a work in progress. I'd love to get into breeding rays........ But not yet. Thanks again everyone!

wow thats neat, wish id come across a deal like that  lol
oh and high everyone new to the forum but i love it, especially diy

Between work and home the new "fishroom" doesnt get the attention it deserves. But the bills dont pay themselves... So needless to say I havent made any progress on the rebuilding of the second rack or cleaning the tanks. But, a little bit of good news...

Yesterday during everybody's lunch-time I easily spotted the eggs of the dragon. Laid right in front on the spawning cone. They arent doing so well with about 1/4 of them already infertile. I do not expect any wigglers from this batch. But, good to see them spawning regularly and so quickly in the new system.

And today at lunch I noticed a large batch of angel fish eggs! Laid in back on the pvc drain pipe.. I did put semi-broad leaf plants but they chose the pipe.. So I'm not sure if I should remove the parents...?? I heard it was best to do it yourself with angels, but I dont really know. Any advice would be appreciated.. Previously they had spawned on a leaf in the 120 community tank and had wigglers, but I'm not sure would the culpret was... There are so many usual suspects in the community..

Also the EBJDs are doing excellent with beautiful coloring and noticeable growth.. I will get some pics up today..

Thanks again!

Nice set up! Looks like a lot of fun! your discus are GORGEOUS! I love that blue one!

Well, no luck with any eggs... :( But, I got a new batch of discus eggs in a 55 not in the fishroom... I'm not sure of the experience of the pair so I'm going to let them do their thing. They are in a bare bottom 55 with some planted driftwood.. its a medium sized batch. If the batch doesnt work out the parents will be moved into the system shortly thereafter.

So, I've learned now to separate the angels from the eggs once fertilized by the male.. I will, in the future, do so and add an airstrip to the tank. My research with the angels has been controversial, some saying keep the parents with the eggs some saying remove. I will try the later next time.

We also started sanding the new stand and cleaning the tanks for the second system, but there is still much work to be done...

Here are a few pics of progress...
