Taken from http://www.hikariusa.com/wp/ufaqs/hikari-diet-flowerhorn-cichlids/even hikari recommends bio gold plus.
A treat is something fish like over normal food, like blood worms, Okiko pallets are not special in that regard.Okiko won't be a treat
Too much protein. Significant amount of fillers. They list 'Special Head Growth Enhancing Ingredients' as ingredient.nor a good food.
Your fish did have genetics for massive nuchal hump or it wouldn't have grown that big, no matter what you fed. Food has little effect on how fish looks (looks are mainly genetic, food does play a factor but minor) but major effect on health and lifespan. The improvement you saw were just fish growing and Genetics.
Hikari works wondersWhat is everyone thoughts on best pellet food for flowerhorn. I am not talking humpy head or any of those to grow huge koks. Just a good staple pellet for health and color. Right now I'm using Hikari blood-red parrot+. This is what he was on at my lfs. He really likes this stuff. I've also looked into Sumo Red and NLS ultra red. These are both pretty expensive. Wondering if its worth it. I use NLS flakes and pellets with my other fish and I know it's a good brand. What are you all feeding for pellets?
Your fish only eats floating food, right?I feed mine this floating pellet mix, exclusively: Hikari Cichlid Bio-Gold+, Northfin Koi Supreme, Omega One Veggie Kelp.
Yes sir, only floating. He will stare at the surface instead of paying attention to the pellets fall all around him if I fed sinking.Your fish only eats floating food, right?
Mine is the same wayYes sir, only floating. He will stare at the surface instead of paying attention to the pellets fall all around him if I fed sinking.
Have you tried starving him a little then one pallet at a time?Yes sir, only floating. He will stare at the surface instead of paying attention to the pellets fall all around him if I fed sinking.
Not worth it right now, and it doesn't bother me. I found the right mix of foods he enjoys and they're good quality, so we're both happy ?Have you tried starving him a little then one pallet at a time?
Hikari Cichlid Bio-Gold+, Northfin Koi Supreme sure are pretty good. Omega One Veggie Kelp doesn't look like though (for being a veggie pallet), main ingredients are mostly fish meals, wheat and rice, something like NLS AlgaeMax would be better choice. Not worth it right now, and it doesn't bother me. I'm fine with it and so is my little guy, so I'll finish it off eventually and find something else. Will be a little while though got a whole can to go through and it's mixed in sparingly.Hikari Cichlid Bio-Gold+, Northfin Koi Supreme sure are pretty good.
