Big ole Texas needs your help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's only been a week. He's a big boy, I wouldn't start to worry about him eating yet.
I feel like you're ahead of the curve though. Usually whenever I see someone post duck lips, the fish is dead within a week.

Also I added him back to the tank he got very stressed out in the hospital tank. He barely moved and hes just too big for the tank. He improved a lot in his tank. I hope he makes it. I will try an aggressive approach when it comes down to it. Hes improving so thats a good start.

Only do treatment in hospital tank if he's stressed on there put on a hiding place flowerpot etc. This particular ailment requires an aggressive treatment plan that will put the rest of your stock not to mention your nitrogen cycle (lifeblood of tank) at risk

As has been said food is not a concern at the moment. Duck lips will finish him long before starvation comes into play. Again good luck to you

So his lesions in his mouth got worse yest and he wasn't looking so good. Over night I put him in a bucket with some meth blue furan 2 and kanaplex treatment with an air stone. I didn't want to do this approach in his hospital tank due to staining and might crash the nitrogen cycle so I did a safe route. I can tell you this hes a lot better now. He has tons of fight in him and hes actually looking better. The lesions look bad still but inflammation decreased. Literally he looked like kylie jenner yest with those lips and now he is stable.

I read it will destroy some tissue which it looks like he has a perforated lesion already but many said it should heal back.

He did take a turn for the worst yest so I panicked and treated him aggressively. I doubled the dosage and let him be in there for about 14 hours. I might do that again in a few days. I didn't want him in the bucket for too long since there is no media or anything in there and suffocating in the medicine.

Thanks everyone who has been helping me with this situation. I'd like to thank you all. My wife thinks I'm nuts stressing over this guy.

He's not the only one putting up one hell of a fight here.
I really hope he makes 100% recovery.

OKAY AN UPDATE! He looks a lot better but hes breathing heavy and not eating. The fish is not expired and tank temp is very low about 70. Its been a good week and finished treatment. I am going to go tomorrow and start another dosage on him he seems like he likes the meds. I am not doing water changes everyday just every other day like the medicine said. He still has this thick mucus/white area on his mouth. What concerns me the fact hes not eating...
keep at it. if his physical symptoms are subsiding that's definitely a great sign. I'm not trying to give you false hope because this bacteria is a biznitch to kill off. He won't eat for quite some time I'd imagine. If I were to guess the infection is at a pretty advanced stage...he was most likely knocking on death's door when you began treatment. Only time will tell now. Are you adding any salt/doing meth. blue dips? that will help with his breathing.

Nevermind read your newest update about the dip bath lol. keep at it. I'd say every 3-4 days try a meth blue dip, double dose in 5 gallons of water for 30 minutes. Don't want to over do the dips since stress will kill him too at this point.

Yes I did the dip more live an over night dip because he was literally breathing like he was going to die. He not only looks better but acts better than the initial treatment a week ago. I think he needed that bath to fight off everything so he can maintain his breathing for now. He was looking so much better today. I think the dip really helped him for now. Just taking it day by day.

I read somewhere EPSOM salt is highly recommended? I been using the pet store salt since I had it from before. Any insight on that?

Epsom salt won't do much in this instance. that's more a bloat/secondary hex treatment.

Meth blue, furan-2, and kanaplex. That's the ticket right there.
