fish are cheap when they are small, expensive when big, and cheap again when they outgrow a tank :)
Not always. For example: leucistic RTC's are insane expensive when small, extremely insane expensive when large, then insane expensive when they outgrow a tank. ;)

I have never seen an LFS sell a larger fish in good condition for less than the smaller fish. In fact, here in wisco, they dont even have to be in good condition. The frontosa cichlids we have around here are gross.

Do they actually get sold, or do they just sit there? I have a 20 inch'er that I've been trying to get rid of for nearly a year, and no one in my entire city is willing to take it for free...

Well now you know why. ;)

And I never claimed to be an lfs, that was just an example to show how difficult it is to sell, or even get rid of them.

I have always known why.

The question wasnt:

"Why do petstores not sell large RBP?"

It was:

"Bigger the fish = More $$$$....is that true?"

Few things are an absolute.
Most things are simply a generalization.

When "we" answer a question, i don't think any of us expect people to think that what we say happens 100% of the time, its what usually happens.

So, does a big fish sell more than a small example of said fish.

Usually yes, but depends on the fish.

Easy to sell small Oscars and small common Pleco's.
Once they are adults, many LFS do not want them because they CAN'T get rid of them, or they will take them from you for free, and give them away for free.

Depends on the fish.
Small burundi frontosa juvie at LFS about $10.
Small Oscar juvie at LFS, about $5.

Adult burundi frontosa at LFS $50 to $100.
Adult Oscar= Free.

Similar sized cichlids requiring similar sized tanks.
One is more valuable as they get bigger, one is hard to give away as they become adults.
