Bigger the Fish = More $$$$....is that true?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If either of you are ever in SE Wisconsin I will meet up with you and take you on an LFS tour. There arent many left in our state...but the prices would drop you.

Not all of us are as lucky as west coasters and FL residents. In FL you can probably net most of the species you want. :D

I realize that pacas are freshwater fish. Usually large bodied fish like pacas are very cheap. Marine large fish on the other hand is pretty expensive I would think. Also Fleshy, I personally never been to Wisconsin but if I ever go I will be very interested in an LFS tour lol

I can't wait for a site from your store to be constructed lol

I have always known why.

The question wasnt:

"Why do petstores not sell large RBP?"

It was:

"Bigger the fish = More $$$$....is that true?"
Lol. Ask any owner or previous owner of large pacu, and they'll all tell you that isn't at all true. In the case of pacu, it's more like "Bigger the fish = More debt".

My pacu is in perfect health and is well over 20". If you can manage to sell it for me for any amount of money over $10, then you can keep however much money you get for it. ;)

Im not trying, nor willing to get into a pissing contest with you.

This is a saltwater forum for starters. No pacu. Second off...no matter how you interpret the concept of the thread, as another poster pointed out, it is a generalization. The answer to that generalization is yes. One fish, or even several different kinds, I feel, are exceptions to the rule.

....I'll rephrase my question...

Everytime I look online or in petstores any large marine fish are usually priced higher, why is that? I generally need to go large cause of preds like lionfish....

Ok.....so hope no freshwater comments are placed not that I'm choosing sides.....however I do only own a marine tank right now ;)

Well...in Wisconsin...our LFS's charge more for large marine fish. And...actually...usually for freshwater ones too.

Pacus and other "nuisance" fish are obvious exceptions.

Got a big pacu? Eat that sucker.

Although I dont own an LFS...I might as well. Pretty well connected and work closely with some friends that have an online frag shack. We do wholesale fish orders together, and if Im NOT growing a coral someone wants I can get it through them usually. All frags are less than $30 too...hopefully soon we will have mini carpet nems.

My buddy just made a big order and is now waiting to frag them out, Im number one on the waiting list. :D

If it is under $30 and big...it sells at my store. Dosen't matter what it is, it sells in a week. People reallllly like the big oscars where I'm at too, I can rarely get them at a foot or more, when I do they are gone. I do have a nice niche as there aren't other stores really close. The only stores within half an hour are Petco and a mainly saltwater store (they have some fresh but not much). I'm trying a 14" gar and a foot long pbass right now for $50 each, have had them for like two weeks...I'm sure they will sell eventually but most people aren't willing to drop that kind of cash right now.

I don't keep a lot of small cichlids either...I'll sell a 6" green terror or jack dempsey quicker than I will 6 small ones.
