can exodon really go in a 29 gallon?

Hmm, I would put your julidochromis in the 19" tank and get him some buddies, they do much better in groups. Will be happier, plus a group of them is interesting to watch. When you put social cichlids alone, they get kind of boring, just sit there. When in groups, you can really see their natural behavior. And that 10 gallon is going to get pretty cramped for the juli after a while. You could get some of the shelldwellers as well in the 29 with the julies, have a tanganyikan theme tank.

can i get some more dickfeldi and other kinds of julidochromis cichlids or would that be a bad idea, I was thinking maybe 4-5 of the dickfeldi and some transcriptus or something like that

LOL but that's a dime a day in Canadian $. buy the time he pays gas both ways and converts whats left to US $ he'll probably be able to retire at 18yrs old
 
Might start with 2 males and 3 females, they may form pairs eventually, if so may have to cut down to one pair. I wouldn't get another species of Julie for this size tank, could try a few of the brevis though. 1m 2-3f should be fine. Keep an eye on them for aggression between the species, & I'd put plenty of rocks in back of tank and lots of shells in foreground. As well as aragonite sand or crushed coral to buffer the pH, since tanganyikans like it very high

how would I sex them to tell? should I just buy like 5 and have them in there?
 
Usually the females are bigger with julies, not 100% sure fire way but I would just try to get both bigger and smaller ones of the tank. And see if a pair forms. I never bother catching and venting young fish personally.

hmmmm, ok, yeah Idk if I would bother doing all of that, I might go with a bichir or jack dempsey, I don't see why a 12 inch fish couldn't go in a 30 inch by 12 inch by 18 inch tank (that's the 29 gallon I might be getting)
