Canister Debate: Which Do You Use?

Eheim. Nothing else. Hasn't let me down a single time :clap , I never had a filter failure. The only reason why I bought new filters (three in total in the past 25 years - I started out with one of my dad's old Eheims) was to upgrade for bigger aquariums.

I use....EHEIM, FLUVAL, HYDOR PRIME 30, RENA FILSTAR XP3...
I love the EHEIM, HYDOR PRIME 30, AND THE FILSTAR XP3....the FLUVAL brand are the worst canister filters I have ever dealt with...The damn thing like to burn out, and then the parts are always changing styles...my last fluval, a 404 has bitten the dust...the impeller parts have melted...and I replaced it with a FILSTAR XP3 (which I got for free!) And I love it!!!
Overall...Canister filters rock!!!

Definately! got a xp3 and a Eheim 2227 Wet/Dry on my 90g and it's almost like a self sustaining ecosystem in there, I do water changes every other week sometimes a month with no problems. Just puts more stress on the filters. :woot:
 
i have a magnum. it works great but sometimes can be a pain in the ass. like today i was away and we had a pwoer outage. and when the power turned on it messed it up and about 10 gallons of the water in my tank had leaked out of the filter. :swear:
 
I had a magnum for many years it always worked great not too hard to clean and restart. in the market for a canister now(started keeping fish again after a few years off) and would consider buying another one.
 
currently using 3 eheims, 1 aquaclear, and a whisper 30 on my breeding convict tank. Eheims are flawless, bought all used and have never had any problems.
 
i use 2 filstar xp2, 1 fluval 404, and a filstar xp3

i even got my girl a xp2 for her fish tank (did not like the crap one she had)
 
I currently only use Rena Filstars among canister filters. I have five XP3s and one XP2.
