Hooked up my fx4 on my 75 today and noticed my water level dropped quiet a bit. So if I were to have a fx4 on like a 20 gallon would that basically be a sump?

On another topic can anyone recommend me a canister filter for a 20 gallon long?
Stock will he f8 puffer and bumblebee gobies.

^ for a 20L maybe use some kind of HOB system would make more sense, since cleaning it would be much easier...

Not a big fan of hob filters but what are a couple good ones/ brands? I like overkill filtration at least 3-4 times water volume

I hear people keep recommending the AC110? Although that will be way overkill on a 20G i think...

Or course, these are different things used and chosen for different reasons.

According to Fluval, the FX4 has a filtration volume of 3.7 gallons with space for 1 gallon of media. A sump for a 75 would perhaps run around 15-20 gallons in volume and carry has much more space for media.

So, if you are strictly looking at volume, it's more like:

Canister = 1/4 sump

Yea that's what I figured it would be about a 1-4 ratio I just figured a big canister filter would act as a sump on smaller tanks allowing larger water vplume fir easier maintained parameters or larger/more stock.

I have two Aqueon QuietFlow 20 HOB filters on my son's 10 gallon aquarium. The same would work on your 20 long, and you could probably add a third if you wanted to. On has the sponge it came with for mechanical filtration and the other I filled with ceramic rings for bio.

Another option could be a SunSun 302B canister filter. I think they run about $60 on Amazon. However, as others have mentioned, they are not the easiest to clean.
