Converting from fresh to reef tank!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If that sand is packaged, there is nothing live about it. You should try to get a handful of LS from a fellow reefer's fuge, to seed it. Or the LR you buy will help.

the sand is packaged but its still in water? is it not live sand? im confused

The same reason that "bacteria in a bottle" is garbage. No food (ammonia to feed the bacteria that makes it "live") = dead bacteria. Also, there is a lot more to live sand than nitrifying bacteria. Tons of worms, pods & other creatures need to be in there. No way they'd live in a bag. Just treat it as plain, expensive sand. Could have saved a ton buy just buying sand.

i see what ur saying but its just 2 twenty pound bags of it i have sand in tank already...just gonna add this to it...live rock is in the tank also with more coming..

That'll work.

IDK what you paid for it but I think you can get a 50lb bang of play sand for about $5.

added green chormis and some kind of small blenny...hope they like the tank....alls left is lighting more rock and occupants.:naughty:

I would have waited to be sure that tank is cycled for a while, before adding any fish.
