Cutting Arowana Fins?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i did fin/gill op on my aro before. you have to put him to sleep to do it. and the tail, back, bottom fin will grow back nicely. Gill..mine never grew back.

Cutting fins is quite often actually. Alot of show fish with fanned out tails and fins actually have their fins and tails slit many times in order to make it look fanned out. Cutting the fin does not hurt the fish and it will grow back. you dont necessarily have to put your fish to sleep to do it, but I would advise it as it might stress them out a bit.

If you're doing this for looks, that is pretty much animal abuse

I've never cut the fins or tail fins off my silver arowana...

But now that you mention it.. yes.. i have seen tails of my own two silvers were they did not grow right... in fact.. one of them was uneven...

But it was bitten off from a Vieja cichlid i had in there.. and after a few months.. the tail fin grow back normally...

I dont know if i would do it deliberately to my own fish...... it does hurt them... :(

i hope the fish dont feel any pain ,, if they do then i am quite shocked ,, there is a post in another thread about a guy that keeps a arowana that has a bend in its back , hat off to him for not cutting his arowana up and trying to give it a good life ,

DOPE 'em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oil of cloves does a good job...
