Well the goonch seems to be stressed and I am thinking the 230 gallon is too small for him. He stopped eating and a couple times he has crashed into the side of the tank when startled. Ran into this same problem with my Aimara. Too small of a tank! Yikes, now what can I do as my 450 gallon and 520 gallon are full of fish. Thought I would have more time before I would have to move him.

That stinks, hopefully you can work something out.

I wouldnt be too worried, they can be finicky at times with feeding ... mine have probably gone on 2 week hunger strikes before, and for no apparant reason ... mine are actually in a tank where they are close to 4-6 inches longer than the tank is wide, and they seem fine, although I agree bigger is always better, but i wouldnt panic about tank size yet, maybe make a little cave, if you dont have one already, so he can hide a little, get comfortable again, and see what happens

Thanks, I moved the driftwood to one end of the tank and lifted it higher with a couple rocks and powehead is blowing in the center. He is eating again but not aggressive like before. I ordered another 2800GPH powerhead so I will add that one and see how he likes it.

He is back to eating pellets again as he quite for a few days but was still eating smelts.

For all you Goonch keepers out there can you tell me if the increased flow I will get from the new powerhead make him more comfortable? When he is facing people moving in front of the tank it sometimes startles him and he takes off so most of the time he is faces towards the back of the tank. After the new powerhead is put in the tank the flow will be 2 aquaclear 110's,FX 5,2 hydor 1200 gph powerheads and a 2800 gph powerhead.

My Goonch loves the extra flow. I put my power head on the back panel of the tank to keep the fish calm. They are skittish.

Thanks, I will try one of the powerheads on the back panel and the other two on each end.

True, they can be skittish, and man do they move fast ... my 220 is literally held together at the top by a ratcheting strap, and when they hit the front glass I get scared! I have 1 1400 and 1 1600 each attached to a bubbler on the bottom blowing bubbly current along the sand, and a 3200 at the top for surface agitiation and to move all the water in the tank and probably a 1600 gph return line from my sump
