A few pages back someone suggested obtaining a pair or pairs from another breeder and then marketing their offspring as from this breeder or that breeder.
I don't know about this. Seems to me there could be some problems if you try to sell your fish off someone else's rep.
I'm not a lawyer not even very smart when it comes to that sort of thing but, it seems to me there could be a legal issue.

Having bloodlines from a reputable dealer can increase the value significantly, it's an indicator of quality

A friends Discus has a 35% value increase because he has fish stemming from a very good breeder not too far away

BIG-G and Hendre I don't think it is against the law to say what strain you started from. I think the biggest thing is just to have healthy fish, now a lot of people assume with those known names that they are going to be healthy. There can be some weird mix breeds that as long as they are healthy look amazing and unique. I agree though Hendre you can probably charge more, but for me I want to go for maybe working up to that breed or just starting from scratch and making my own name. But most important is keeping them healthy and delivering healthy fish to everyone.

I agree just stating that if you have a pair that were purchased from a breeder that makes their living off their fish.
It may be viewed that you are cutting into their market by using their own fish against them.
If you advertise hey these are from breeder X get them from me .
You get my meaning?
But yes the way you make a good reputation is by providing healthy fish.

Just a thing of quality bloodlines, maybe don't show it off but keep it in mind

This project is looking great. I'm in the acquisition phase of my fishroom build now so I'll be following along. Looking to do the same thing, just focused on other south american cichlids, and not primarily discus.

I've got a group of retroculus lapidifer ready to breed and working on getting some geophagus mirabilis and pellegrini. Also growing out a few different groups of plecos. I'm waiting for a local vendor to get some green discus in and I will probably grab some of those as well for a breeding project.

Just finished picking up my second 155 bowfront yesterday and have a few 40 breeders to get started.

So I am just about to silicon in the glass. I have started to cut in the bulkhead holes in the plywood and I have added some of the top bracing.



Once all the paint is dried I will silicon in the glass, if you are wondering what is going on. Well I had set the glass in and I would not have been able to silicon it in without the braces. The front had too much of a bow to it, so I laid the glass down and covered it inside the tanks. Then I put the braces on the top and painted them. Once the glass is siliconed in I will put the 2"x6's braces in which should lock everything into place (hence the weird spacing on the current braces.

Sidenote: I tried to cut another piece of glass and I am terrible at it. It ended up breaking and making a whole sheet unusable. I ended up talking to one of my brother-in-laws and he was able to get me a sheet of glass already cut to the correct dimensions. He was able to get it for me for free, which significantly helped make up for my glass blunders.
