I am really impressed with how quiet the whole setup runs. I can faintly hear the sump from the other room. But, I still need to get a lid for the sump and also need to put doors on my stand. I am guessing that after I do all of that, it should be almost silent.

It will be. The sump on my 265 is much louder from the water splashing, but when I close the doors it's almost silent. It would be as quiet as a canister if it wasn't for the hum of the little giant. The quiet one submersed are awesome.

NICE sump!!!

along with the noise question.

That waterfall isn't loud? or is it because its not hitting standing water?

I've started looking for a 55 gallon to build on for my 150!!!!

The waterfall does make some noise, but not really a great deal. It's flowing into a 1/4" of water, so maybe that helps and it doesn't really splash at all. I think that once the doors are on the stand it will kill any noise that the waterfall makes.

Good luck with your sump! It's just getting past the initial fear of building the first sump that was hard. Now, I realize, I should have built one of these for each of my tanks.

Cool thanks.

I have an empty 30 gallon tank. I think I'm going to try my first attempt on that. We'll see how it turns out. I'll take some pics.

I compare the waterfall noise in his sump to that of an AC 110. the water fall really quiet because it's so smooth. If you're using acrylic or something else.....make sure it's smooth.

thanks. i got another one for u. how many holes do u know to drill for the drip plate in order for it to run through the whole thing? is there a specific distance between each one?

We'll see if anyone spots the mistake that we had to fix.

I didnt see you silicon off the bottom of the first section which needs to be waterproof otherwise water would go from the sock -> under the wall -> straight past the media chamber -> into the pump area.

Is that the error?

Does silicon stick to corion okay? Id have made the ledges and baffles out of glass but only cos thats what I know best.

I evenly spaced 105 (1/4") holes on the board and it luckily worked out great. (Which comes out to 1-1/2" spacing on the 1'x2' board.) I had planned on having to modify it by putting some more holes in it. But, now that it's up and running, I can see that it's getting really good coverage over all of the bioballs and it doesn't really seem necessary.

:grinno: Good guess...but we did silicone the bottom of that piece, it just doesn't really show up in the pictures.

***Hint*** Look at the assembly pictures to when it is actually up and running. ;)

The silicone does stick really well to the Corian...we didn't have any problems there. When they manufacture countertops, they actually use the same silicone to adhere wood to the back of the countertop.

thanks jd. im gonna start up a 55g sump i just got also, and i like your design a lot. the only thing i wanted to do different was fill the entire first chamber with poly filter instead of a sock. do u see any impeding trouble in this idea? i really dont see anything wrong with that, but if there's something about water flow, then im all ears. :)
