Well you can speculate all you want but until you try it you'll never know. I was just simply stating how I could make this work with the fish stated. What I really think is anything you put in a tank with spawning dovii are goin to die in the long run. To the op if you really want to try it you should but if it doesn't work out then I would have a backup plan for the generals. If it is simply about dither fish then yes there are lots of better choices.

I've tried it and it does work in some situations but when your paying $18 a general it's not worth the possible waste of money. I know I wouldn't want them dying especially for fish rarely even seen in the hobby let alone for sale.

I see your point and I guess from the op's first post they are hard to find where he is at but not in my area. It would be a little unfair for anything to be put in a tank with breeding dovii. Hell I know I wouldn't want to be in there with them lol.

lol... my dovii will end up alone... wont they!-)

Usually yea. Unless you're cool with non cichlid tankmates. Everyone's fish is different tho. Just keep trying things. Different species, sizes, and sexes. You'll find something eventually. Just want to say I don't own any dovii, just speaking from experience with other large cichlids.
