I ordered a dwarf giraffe catfish from WetSpot tropicals!! Super excited when I saw it up for sale, I even lowered my stock and changed my tank around to soot him better. My question is I have a maybe 4 inch zig zag eel in the tank, he's always out and never really hiding so could he become dinner? The catfish is estimated to be 2.5- 3 inches.. also are they slow or quick growers, he'll be in a 75 so size shouldn't be a problem but I'm curious.

We had 2 of them and they were only about5 inches long and did not seem to grow from that. They were only visible when eating and a little pushy at this time. Sadly something in our tank beat them up beyond repair. Still have no idea what it was as the tank was quite peaceeful.

I don't know about these guys, but I think that there are a couple of poly owners that have giraffe cats (not sure if dwarf or not) and one specifically was from Wet Spot.

I have an Auchenoglanis sp. "Bouche," from Wet Spot, and while they're sometimes referred to as "dwarf giraffe catfish" they're not actually. The Auchenoglanis genus is really murky taxonomically, and the bouche is sometimes referred to as dwarf because they're the smallest of the genus, thought to reach 18-24" while the rest reach like 2.5-3". But Wet Spot also also carries the real dwarf girraffe catfish, Notoglanidium macrostoma, so I'm assuming that's what you're talking about.

But even though I don't have the dwarf, I'm pretty sure you'll be fine with the tire track eel. Their mouths are pretty small relative to their body. I would feel comfortable putting that tire track in with my 5" Bouche

Notoglanidium macrostoma is what I ordered, super excited. I thought they had pretty small mouths so I didn't think it would be an issue with me eel but rather get a second opinion.

I actually have the exact same giraffe as ShanerBock888 ShanerBock888 interestingly enough it's about 5 inches and is sharing a QT with a 4 inch Fire eel. No issues with aggression, the catfish doesn't even really seem to care about the eel and vice versa. I think you'll be fine, especially with a dwarf species

nice, we should set up a play date :p. Yeah mine is the same way, barely acknowledges its tankmates, but goes nuts over food lol. I love him though, so much that I've been debating getting another

Haha mine thanks it's a hermit crab... It's camped under a Java fern and every day I find the fern in a different place in the tank... The fire eel just goes along for the ride haha.

It's kind of shy when it comes to eating in front of me, but the blackworms in the tank disappear way too fast for eating not to be happening

It should be fine, I keep mine with upper jaw bichirs. I've had ones much smaller than the catfish and he didn't eat them. Make sure you have a spot for him to hide, that's all mine does unless there's food out or when there are no lights on in night time. I have mine in a planted tank and I was battling black beard algae. I took all plants and decorations out for a few days and noticed my dwarf giraffe got burn marks on his body from hiding under the heater. He made a full recover when i added a hiding spot for him.
