T1karmann and I are both british ray keepers, and use eheim, neither of us clean our filters less than every 4-6 months.

Same here except I'm an American ray keeper and I use FX5s:grinno:

the 2229 is not in the same ball park as a FX5

it a 2080 or 2262 we are talging about hear

how much turn over does the 2262 have again i forget :D

i use both , it all depends on price and size , fx5 are bigger but work greaT , and eheims are a bit smaller and work great as well , its just a matter of taste !@!

If you BUY a Eheim REMEMBER to buy a FEW POWER HEADS at the same time! Its very important!!! lololol.

Might be able to get a good deal on a Hagen power head on Ebay

Wait, we are still only filtering half as much as the Fx5.... You will need to spend $140 on new pump for the 2080 to get increased flow

The slow turnover rate on eheims is done on purpose for the type of filtration they are made for-Biological. Do you think a brand that has been around for this many years would not up there turnover rate if they needed to?

The Fx-5 is a mechanical filter, taking any fish crap and garbage from large tanks with ease do to power. Ehieims are a better filter for cleaning the water of all ammonia and harmful toxicins. FX-5's are better fit with pads to catch crap than bio media.

The Fx-5 happens to be one of the easiest filters i have ever set-up, and matained to a point. They give you a DVD how to set the filter up if you can't do it by reading the instructions. The filter primes and mataines priming performance by itself. Keeping clean can be a pain with washing the pads, etc- but has to be done.

No need to get heated, there both great filters, and IMO a tank should use both filters. FX-5 for mechanical, Eheims for biological.

If I get the FX5 for mechanical ...which Eheim for bio ? ... the 2080 or 2229 wet/dry ... your opinion ? ( 2 ray's and 1 pbass?) 125gal grow out...

I will have to go to a 220gal + I suspect within a yr. , and it would be nice to not have to upgrade the filters too much..maybe just add a sump to what I already have .
