Ellioti x Convict Hybrid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry guys, been busy with uni and stuff! Tried taking more pics recently, but failed miserably. :P Oh god why am I such a bad photographer. I know nothing about lighting, angle or anything of the sorts. Bleh hell.

Firstly, thanks for the interest everyone! :D

Previously just one of them was much bigger than the rest, but now more and more of them are catching up, and they're looking really nice. Starting to really show colors on the fin as well, and though it's not clear yet, hopefully it'd be the red coloration of the Ellioti. Sprangles though, are definitely present now. I notice a few yesterday, and they had an amazing blue sheen to them. Still can't be 100% sure that they won't go away or not be as nice when they grow up as well, especially since I've never seen cichlid fry before, but hey no point in not hoping for the best. :P

@Kaliedoscope: I don't really know about Rainbow Cichlids, but I would think they'd be able to cross with most other Central Americans, as judging on prior crosses it would seem so, but I haven't actually seen a cross of a Rainbow, so can't really know for sure. :P Maybe someone should try it one day. Indeed stranger things have happened, would be strange that Rainbows can hybridize.

@Bluewatertexas: Certainly will try lol, gonna have to learn how to ship first. :P

Man I am 90% sure herotilapia multispinosa cannot hybridize with thorichthys. They can probably cross with convicts and redpoints, septemfasciatum sajica etc... but I seriously doubt thorichthys.

You think severum x convict is possible but not h. Multispinosa x thorichthys isn't? They are much more closely related to each other than convicts are to severums.

+1 on update

Here's a semi-good-ish pic that I managed to snap today:

Some of them are developing really nice dorsal spots, whilst others are not. Not sure what that means. Apparently there are strains of Elliotis with females that develop dorsal spots, whilst other strains don't. Whatever the case, the Aussie strain do develop dorsal spots if they're female, so maybe (or maybe not) this is a trait that the Ellicons somehow inherited (from dad).

Anyways, the bars are still disjointed (as you can see in the pic, none of the bars actually go fully from the dorsal fin to the belly). They're developing red on their fins still, especially at the base of the fins. Also there's lot's of speckles around the black blotch on their body, the same black blotch normally found on Elliotis.

The largest one is about 3cm in length, most of the rest are way smaller. Unfortunately at this time I only have about 20 left. :(

I separated four into a separate tank (this is one of the four). Not entirely sure if this is the largest or the second largest (they're similar sizes), but yeah, they look very similar. The largest one though, imo, looks a lot better. A LOT meaner. :D

Actually, I just managed to snap a pic of one with its dorsal spot presented. Kind of a bad pic, but eh well:

Anyways yeah, really can't wait till they grow even larger. :D
