A long time ago, when I was just a kid, I wanted to see how long two goldfish would live in my toilet bowl. For days, there they swam. No dechlorinater and no food while I used my mothers toilet when I had to go to the bathroom. Until one day..I had a deuce of all deuces that needed quick satisfaction. A turtle head to end all turtle heads. Being as how my mother was using her bathroom and I was already touching cotton, there was only one solution, the "goldfish" bowl. Those poor little guys had ringside seats. Then flushhh and they were gone. The next morning, after emptying my bladder, I look down to see these poor comets looking up at me. They somehow stayed in the bowl. Weeell.....Long story short, they stayed in that bowl, day after day, flush after flush, golden shower after golden shower, until one day they were gone. Poor little guys...

I've since learned my lesson though. Goldfish dont belong in bowls.

(true story btw)

Never have, hope I never have too. At first I was taken back at how many do this And thought it was so bad. Then I remember I tried to rescue this pit bull. He was great with people but any animal that was near him would get killed or messed up. He went after my dog for NO reason. pushed open a door and went straight for my dog that was just sitting across the room. So I had to put him Down. :( I was so upset but no way he could be trusted. I now have another rescue pit that's the best with kids and other dogs.

So if you have a good reason I guess it's not that bad. I think you should always try and rehome or get another tank. if the fish is just down right nasty better to put it down then let it go.

i dont know about cutting or smashing them, but i guess i can see using clove oil as the best way to kill fish. i have never killed any cuz it makes me feel guilty, but if u have to, u have to. i will say though all my problem fish have been rehomed so rehoming is probly best. this includes a large rtc, so any fish can probably be moved. dont worry, the rtc is in a 10,000 gallon pond now. i just put him up for free on craigslist and someone offered for me to throw it in their pond.

big fisherman here... kill fish all the time.. i dont really see the problem with just chopping off a fish's head.. be it a crappie or cichlid... could i bring myself to kill a fish that ive raised since a juvi? probably not..

I have to admit I have done the same thing many times when fishing and never seen a problem with it but havent done it for a few years. I guess as I get older my views on things have changed.

I haven't killed any fish myself but I know a friend of mine who had a 225 gallon tank with alot of monster fish before but he took it down now and he told me he had to club his fish to death as he couldn't find a new home for it. It was sad to hear this but if u can't find a new home for 3ft monsters I guess there is no other option. IMO u could release the fish into a local lake if it's safe enough to do but where I live that's not an option as it's too cold for tropical fish here.
