Customer: The ph in my tank is really low around 4, and I keep adding ph down and the ph just goes lower.
Me: Thats what ph down does, it lowers the ph or in other words causes the ph to go down.
Customer: Well I keep adding it and the ph just keeps going down, I don't get why.
Me: As I said that's what that product is designed to do. It lowers the ph.
Customer: So should I add more to get the ph up?

This went on for like 30 minutes, he just really didn't get it. Tried convincing him to stop adding that product and do some water changes.

Hahah. "Well I keep adding it and the ph just keeps going down, I don't get why." I'd have said "Um, one of us isn't keeping up with the conversation here.."

Q. What's the product called? A. PH Down.
Q. What do you think this product does, given the name? A. It raises the PH, of course!
Q. And this other product, what is it called? A. PH Up.
Q. And what do you think this product does? A. Umm... :screwy:

He for some reason seemed to think that ph down was what you added if the ph in your tank was low. Not sure how he got that considering the name of the product and the description on the bottle.

Wow. PH down customer needs a swat to the face. Hilarious. If you looks at the main ingredient (the only ingredient?) it's an acid. Pretty self-evident.

I was at Bridges Pets looking for a giant otto and this young, skinny girl came up to me and was like, "Hi, can I help you with anything?" I told her I was looking for a giant otto. I told her it was for my 55 gallon and she, from that point on, answered anything I had to say about growing algae for him, sunlight, whatever, with, "Yeah, I think you need a bigger tank." Even after telling her my tank is understocked at the moment, she was unfazed. It was like a SNL skit!

Me: So I let the morning sun shine in to promote the algae to grow on the glass for him. I think that's part of the trick to keeping these tiny wild plecos.
Her: Umm, yeah. *glassy stare* I think you need a bigger tank.
Me: I do a 50% water change every week and my nitrAtes rarely get above the 20ppm to 40ppm range. Sometimes I feed lightly for a week or two to really get it down.
Her: Umm, yeah. *glassy stare* I think you need a bigger tank.
Me: For five four-inch fish? I'm not sure why you would think that.
Her: Umm, yeah. *glassy stare* I think you need a bigger tank.
Me. Okay, thanks. This was fun.

Actually, both acara's and green terrors are from the aequidens family. I believe I read recently in TFH about multiple species of green terrors from different regions.

Also, depending on the temperament of the jar, I don't see why you couldn't keep discus with it. I've seen discus with aro's on several occasions.

This is too funny.

I was at a pretty good LFS, just checking out their cichlids with my girlfriend.

So we nottice this Lady and her son walk in with a gallon sized ziplock bag of brownish water to get some tests done.

The employee takes some of the water for the tests and hands the kid back the bag.

Whats funny is that the kid, about 10 years old, wondering around the shop looking at fish, starts drinking the water sample!

He was lifting the gross water bag up to his mouth and sipping it, each time he would say "ooh ahh" like it was so good and refreshing.

lol !!!!!

We were stunned and kept waiting for his mom or the employee guy to nottice.

He finished the whole bag, squeezing out every last delicious drop.

We finally bust out laughing and had to run out of the store laughing hysterically.

lol

I had a fun customer come in last night. They had a saltwater tank given to them a couple months ago. They rinsed it out and scraped off all the calcium build-up, refilled and couldn't figure out why their fish kept dying ever since. They re-used the live sand as the substrate.

I was told that a customer had a bowl in his hand and asked to buy one of our puffers (true freshwater..."fangs" puffer). My coworker asked the guy what he was doing...he said he was going to put the puffer in the bowl, and add a little salt everyday, so he can put in his saltwater tank. Luckily she strongly discouraged this, and he did indeed buy some other salties (an eel, etc).

Like...without re-adding salt?

Yep, just rinsed, filled with fresh water and dumped the sand and corals back in. The idea of ammonia spikes from rotting, dead micro-organisms never even occurred to him. I was afraid to ask how many fish he killed during the three months it took before things stopped dying on him. Apparently, it's fine now. :wall:
