The other day I go to petco to get a female betta. As I am buying it the girl working the register looks at it and says " wow shes pretty". I said, " yeah I got a male I am going to try and breed it with". She then tells me not to do it that the male will kill her and that she breeds bettas. I told her I was aware of the risks but I know a certain way to breed them.

She goes on to tell me I need 2-3 females for the male and to let them all loose together in a tank. This is actually the wrong way to breed them. So I am smiling and just letting this girl talk nonsense.

So I mention that you put the female with the male but have the female in the cup so the male can see her but not get to her. Then she starts agreeing with me. So the conversation is pretty much done and I am walking away and shes still going on about bettas and how aggressive and mean they are. She starts talking to my friend as we are leaving and kinda slowing us down from leaving. I was walking away slowly and I was over hearing what she was saying to my friend. Telling my friend about how aggressive and mean bettas are that they kill any fish. And then she says they are "chinese" fish, and actually they are "siamese". After we left I told my friend how much of an idiot that girl was. That everything she said was false.

I just don't get how people can say things about fish and actually have no clue at all about them.

I have another one
customer: what pleco will eat algae?
coworker: a common pleco
customer: how big do they get:
coworker: 12"
customer: oh...
me: umm a Common Pleco doesn't eat algae
customer: so what pleco does?
me: A Bristlenose pleco...
customer: how big do they get?
me: 6"
customer: ok thanks

:grinno:

Customer: I bought two small suckerfish out of this tank a few weeks ago, both died in the past few days. I think I would like to try some bigger ones, do you have any larger ones?
Me: Yes...I have medium ones right here. What size tank do you have?
C: Oh, I have that new Fluval Chi! It's great! I'll take two.
Me: These guys get about two feet long...they produce way too much waste for that size tank.
C: *Giggling* Oh...they'll die before they get that big *wink*.
Me: That's kind of the point... Wouldn't you want a fish that will work long term in your size tank? What about these bristlenose plecos? They stay on the small side, and they do a great job at eating algae.
C: Oh, those are way too small, I'll take two of those medium ones. (She's starting to glare at me)
Me: How about just one? Two plecos tend to be territorial in smaller tanks, you really only need one.
C: But I have twin boys! They each need their own fish.
Me: *Glare* While scooping...I ask what she was feeding the ones that died.
C: I need to feed them?!
*facepalm*

I went to an LFS near me because I was thinking of asking them to take some fish off my hands, as a donation (I have done this before) . . . but the store has gone so downhill in the last year, I couldn't do it . . .

I saw a convict that appeared to have a broken back, couldn't even swim:(

I saw a fish that might have been a jurupari, but it was so wasted away it was nothing more than a long thin body and two huge eyes

of all the tanks I looked in, maybe half of the fish looked good enough to sell, and of the rest, they looked either half-dead or just sick

overall, it was pretty depressing . . . I got the hell out of there, don't think I'll go back ...

Was at my LFS today, and my buddy who works there and knows his stuff got new fish in.

So obviously I was intrigued, and he told me that this was the tank setup his manager (who knows so little about FW) told him to do..

In a 20g High tank....

10 Firemouths (3-4")
15 Red Devils (.5")
15 butterkoferi (1")
10 flowerhorn (1.5")
10 red terrors (1")

:eek::eek::eek:

oh and a couple black sharks :nilly:

He did this, but only because his manager just refuses to listen to him when he says that certain fish just can NOT go together...

I basically shat myself when I saw the tank after the fish went in. They weren't sure wtf was going on at all. I saw 3 fish with ick, so his and my bet was that the tank would pretty much crash by the weekend. Sad for the fish, but possibly good for the manager to make her realize how wrong she was...

Oh and one more, This guy came in with a cooler with a "huge catfish" in it. We open it up, it's a 9" long blue channel catfish. I looked at him and asked where he had it. He said he had it in a 40 breeder, which isn't HORRIBLE but could've been worse. I asked him why he was bringing it here and he said he had a breeding pair of butterkoferi (in a 40 gal??? :nilly: ) that had literally buried him inside a log by putting gravel on top of the log and at both ends to protect the fry. On the plus side the catfish was really healthy :screwy:

"wheres your nemo?" "nemo's are freshwater right?" "OH LOOK ITS NEMO"

everytime i pull a dead clownfish i hope its the one from the movie.

lol but this one guy came into the store, and asked for two ghost shrimp. I asked him why so few, just wondering if he had a small planted tank. He goes on to tell me that he believes in evolution so he starts the tank with plants, then adds invertabrates then the fish..... Not even close to evolution sir.

Hah...hahaha.

I don't remember if I posted this, but I had someone ask me if we had any Nemos. I was out, so I told her I could order one for her, it would be in on Tuesday, she said okay. Tuesday comes around, I call the lady to let her know it's in, and she comes in a while later with a herd of kids. I left it in the bag, so it wouldn't get shocked x2, and showed it to her. She asked why he was in the bag, I explained, and she goes oh, I don't want to take him home, I just wanted to show the kids a real life Nemo. :screwy:

My Favourite, old lady comes in staring at the large reef display tank we used to have, she then toddles over to me and asks, "do you have them in box's?"
Puzzled I follow her over to the tank where she points at a mushroom colony and a xenia, and again asks "those do you have them in box's. They would look wonderful with my son's goldfish."
I replied, "no madam those are corals they are living things they must be kept in the tank."
"Oh, so you don't have any in a box?",
By this point my co-worker has disappeared off to the other end of the shop in fits of laughter, and I had to give in,
"i'm sorry madam, we sold the last one this morning."

By the way - here's a picture of that tank as of today - already lost about 10 fish including all the black sharks
