on time i was at a petsmart to buy feeders for my endli as treats of course, and then i asked the lady, "hey may i have twenty rosies please?" and then she just stared at me with a blank look on her face. i was like

man do i feel your pain this one time when i used to work at the pet store i met this guy so he walks in and goes.... lemme get 100 feeders, so i say to him thats alot of feeders you must have some nice fish and he looks at me laughs and goes i could teach you a few things about fish, i go really? and he says yea i have sharks, so i go really, he goes ah man there mean, so i go which ones he goes there called irredecents... i look at him with a blank look and say you mean these and point to them and he goes yea but mine are way bigger, i was just like w.e so i say o col what size tank, he goes i have 6 in a 40 breeder, but i have more tanks so just to see how dumb he was i said o reallllllllly what else, he goes i have piranha i go really, he said a special rare kind called red pacus there vicious................so i said o really? how many, he said 5 i said o really he goes there a schooling fish, see you petstore guys dont know nothing, said it just like that so i asked what size tank, he goes in this really big 75 gallon bowfront, its a great tank, so i go really i go well il tell you what, those super exotic red belly pacu piranha are on sale in tank number 12 2 for 6 bucks.... here are your fish have a nice day, o and by the way if your super mean pacu like give them sme super mean zucchini and a bigger tank cause those super mean piranha will soon break your tank but you probably knew that already, and by the way those sharks are catfish... but whatever makes you smile bud have a good one and walked into the back room........ what a dummy

i wouldve kicked that guy really hard in the crotch...

I snapped today Ill start it off

over the last few days ive been comming down with a bug and i felt like crap today and i went in as saturday isa busy day and i knew that they'd need me.

Later into the day it was just me and a collegue and it was really busy and i felt so. So a customer asked me to bag him a pair of N. Venustus. Hes a dodgey customer never likes me serving him.

He was complainging saying that he lost a fish that he bought a week ago, died after 5 days so we dont have a valid guarantee for it, it was a M. Johanni, he said it wouldnt eat, i said was it getting picked on, he said a bit. I said thats why it wasnt like that when we sent it out, you should have helped it, seperated it. thats why it died, sorry cant refund it.

He then said what do you know? Ive been keeping them longer and know more than you anyway. and thats all that matters. (I bet my job on the fact that those were his exact words) i so i was mega pissed

Started sayin you know more than me? ive been doing it for 4 years, but have massive tanks, peacock bass, gulper cat, lungfish etc..... my collegue had to take him away and calm me down.

Never lost my temper with a customer before.

Bogwoodbruce: I think anyone who works with living creatures that have wants, needs, and preferences like any of us should be allowed at least one 'freak-out' per week.

This business is full of ethical compromises that I try to attack/destroy/implode.

...as an evolutionary biologist, I almost ripped into this guy like a squirrel into a watermelon...

I was at a petsmart store getting feeder fish, I think I was getting 40 or so, and the girl who was working that section clearly was pretty new at this. So we're talking, and she is catching one at a time, standing up, walking over to the stand with it, putting it in the little plastic hanger bucket and walking back for the next one. Trying not to sound condescending, I tell her that I think that will hook on the side of the tank so she doesn't have to walk and she looks at me like I just told her to put the fish right in my purse or something So she continues one at a time, dripping water all over the floor and herself, and is about half way to the stand with the 8th or so fish (in as many minutes) and she looks down at the black goldfish in the net, gets this somewhat puzzled/horrified look, then looks at me and goes "is it ok if it's not gold?"

I told her they must all taste the same, because the fish don't seem to care

petsmart is RACIST!!! :j/k:

I think:
1. There should be a college level entrance exam fish test for all prospective fish store employees for the country.
2. All fish stores should have the right to not only refuse service to ANYONE, but to also be able to report individuals to a national pet abuse agency and have them arrested/detained/prosecuted.
3. Petsmart, Petco, etc... should stick to goldfish and guppies. No more of this nonsense about housing oscars in 30g tanks.
4. All people should agree with me.

As good as that sounds, it would mean the death of fish stores. They make their money selling fish to uneducated tards.

It IS the second most popular hobby in the U.S. More regulation would mean less fish stores, but more responsible and better fish stores. Overall, better for the hobby, the hobbyists, and most importantly, the fish.

I have tons of stories, working for a big chain store, however my biggest pet peeve is when people call cichlids, chinchillas. I tell them chinchillas are not fish, but small animals. Or when they call them chick-lids.
