Last night some guy at the LFS tried to take me for a ride. I was in the aggressive fish section and looking at the fish. Most I wasnt interested in either because they get too big or too aggressive, or they jsut arent something I like. So I ask the guy, do you got any smaller cichlids that hang in the upper region of the tank and not the middle-bottom so much. He starts looking around and goes " You can buy an African Cichlid, they like the top!". I told him I cant because it isnt compatible with my tank for 1, and 2 they need different water conditions and set up than my current stock. He looks at me in a strange way, and kinda gives me this shrugging gesture. Then he goes, " How about an Arowana!". Right after I tell him its for a pretty small tank. I told him they get too big, the guy was acting strange and suprised, I guess he figured giving crappy advice to people usually worked and it wasnt working on me.
So I then told him what about the Mono Sebae (Or however they are spelled), he said yeah they are alright. But he failed to mention they need brackish, and didnt even consider my current stock in my tank that I told him previous. Well, finally I asked about a gold severum and he told me they get bigger than Oscars.
This whole experience got me thinking how these dumba$$ employees giving rotten advice and because of them so many people have disaster in their tanks. Thank god I knew better, or else that idiot would have caused me problems.
