Isn't it in the TOS that one must be at least 13 years old to register for the forum? I know most web-based services have a minimum age of 13. [Except for porn, that one is 18. :D]
How would you know about porn sites minium age without registering?:D

Ive got a funny one from today.

We had a lady come in who says her husband has a big 350 litre tank full of coldwater native fish, that he catches. He has perch and a few other bits and bobs and she wanted some crayfish/lobsters we had in.

We were keeping them in sub tropical conditions, and she said will they be ok going into freezing cold water. I said we keep them cold and they'll be ok. I said well stick them into a plastic bag and if you float them in the tank for 30-45mins and let them out it should help get them used to the cold.

And she gave me a look as if she didnt understand a word i said. I tried to explane that we use plastic bags to transport fish, and she said oh is that how you do it. (I had to try and keep myself from laughing)

Not the funnist story made me chuckle though.

what did she expect to use? a bucket?

I saw a grammodes at the LFS today. The guy told me it was a wolf cichlid.

I was at a petsmart store getting feeder fish, I think I was getting 40 or so, and the girl who was working that section clearly was pretty new at this. So we're talking, and she is catching one at a time, standing up, walking over to the stand with it, putting it in the little plastic hanger bucket and walking back for the next one. Trying not to sound condescending, I tell her that I think that will hook on the side of the tank so she doesn't have to walk and she looks at me like I just told her to put the fish right in my purse or something :grinno: So she continues one at a time, dripping water all over the floor and herself, and is about half way to the stand with the 8th or so fish (in as many minutes) and she looks down at the black goldfish in the net, gets this somewhat puzzled/horrified look, then looks at me and goes "is it ok if it's not gold?" :nilly:

I told her they must all taste the same, because the fish don't seem to care ;)

Last night some guy at the LFS tried to take me for a ride. I was in the aggressive fish section and looking at the fish. Most I wasnt interested in either because they get too big or too aggressive, or they jsut arent something I like. So I ask the guy, do you got any smaller cichlids that hang in the upper region of the tank and not the middle-bottom so much. He starts looking around and goes " You can buy an African Cichlid, they like the top!". I told him I cant because it isnt compatible with my tank for 1, and 2 they need different water conditions and set up than my current stock. He looks at me in a strange way, and kinda gives me this shrugging gesture. Then he goes, " How about an Arowana!". Right after I tell him its for a pretty small tank. I told him they get too big, the guy was acting strange and suprised, I guess he figured giving crappy advice to people usually worked and it wasnt working on me.

So I then told him what about the Mono Sebae (Or however they are spelled), he said yeah they are alright. But he failed to mention they need brackish, and didnt even consider my current stock in my tank that I told him previous. Well, finally I asked about a gold severum and he told me they get bigger than Oscars.

This whole experience got me thinking how these dumba$$ employees giving rotten advice and because of them so many people have disaster in their tanks. Thank god I knew better, or else that idiot would have caused me problems.

Me: You realize that each one of these will get as big as that tank?
Customer: They don't have to get that big.
Me: Then I'm sorry, I don't have to sell them.

This is perfect. I love it! They wouldn't keep me long at a fish shop, I'd refuse to sell more fish more than I sold.

Ok, mine is more first hand. I have a friend who got a 75 gallon tank for her 1!!!! feeder goldfish! she wanted to make sure it was happy! Rofl

Good for her :-) 'Feeder Goldfish' can get well over a foot long if housed and kept properly. That beats the heck out of stuffing a Goldfish in a 10 g.

I agree, most people I've talked to still believe that Oscars are highly aggressive and I think part of this misconception is because most people keep them in cramped environments. :irked:

People HERE on this forum and so many others think that, too, though. (Or maybe that's what you meant).
