About employees

Not really funny, but at most of the petshops I have asked about four-lined pimelodus, I'm told that pictus and four-lined pimelodus are the same fish. Anytime I mention that they are related, but two different species, the employees act like I'm an idiot. Maybe it is a problem with common name misunderstandings, but they were never interested in hearing the scientific name, when I asked about ordering some.

I already bought two at another place, but I think there are now four-lines at my local wal-mart mixed in with the pictus.

I haven't seen too many customers doing stupid things. I'm usually absorbed in what I'm doing, so maybe that's why I don't notice. I know I have made a couple of stupid mistakes myself though :)

i hang around at my lfs a lotthis one happens five times a day:
Customer: does these fish need oxogen?
Owner:yes
Customer: Do you have a fish that doesnt need oxogen?
Owner: not at the moment.
Customer: Bye.... wait does this fish need oxogen?
Owner: yes
bye then
this was the worst
Lady walks in with a bowl with 30 DEAD fish frozen in a bowl. (including beatiful checkerbords cardinals, tetras and cories.) "i didnt want them any more some of them died."
owner: oh... thats thermal shock probably, yes thats it (he blames everything on that), ill get you some more."
as he is about to dip the net in to get some she says,
"no i want something a bit bigger like those" she pointed to a ton of gouramis.
owner gets like twenty and she walks away. i wonder how many will make it:(

Wow some of these people. At least at y local petsmart some of the employees are knowledgeable, one in particular because he is part of the local aquarium society that i still have yet to join. Most of the other lfs are great with service and care.

I was at a petsmart store getting feeder fish, I think I was getting 40 or so, and the girl who was working that section clearly was pretty new at this. So we're talking, and she is catching one at a time, standing up, walking over to the stand with it, putting it in the little plastic hanger bucket and walking back for the next one. Trying not to sound condescending, I tell her that I think that will hook on the side of the tank so she doesn't have to walk and she looks at me like I just told her to put the fish right in my purse or something :grinno: So she continues one at a time, dripping water all over the floor and herself, and is about half way to the stand with the 8th or so fish (in as many minutes) and she looks down at the black goldfish in the net, gets this somewhat puzzled/horrified look, then looks at me and goes "is it ok if it's not gold?" :nilly:

I told her they must all taste the same, because the fish don't seem to care ;)

youd think that but once upon a time i too did time in a lfs and youd be surprised the bs ppl come up with. seriously my oscar or piranha or w/e else these morons had nothing interesting i assure you some only ate all orange ones and some had a taste for only longfins and the snakes omg the snakes that wouldnt eat white males or this that and the other thing Im so glad i am no longer in the employ of the pet trade what a soul sucking term that was:WHOA:
