Finally, JDs have laid Eggs again!

Another question to the advanced JD keepers in here:

I want to grow out some of the new batch of the propably wildcaught/F1 pair.
I will try it with about 30 of them, so they don´t inhibit the growth of each other the way the batch before did. They will stay with the pair since this is more successful.
Will they grow noticeably faster in smaller numbers?
Is there a risk too many of them die if I take such a small amount?
Does it strengthen them when everyone gets more food instead of 150 dwarfs cramping on one point fighting for every molecule they can find?

To get the fastest growth rate, I would move them to a large tank by themselves (remove them from the parents). I suspect your fry are in the 1 - 2 inch size right now, so something like a 40-55 gallon tank would be good now. Feeding them frozen brine, frozen blood worms and mysis will promote fast growth, but very important to keep up water changes.

To answer your questions more specifically:
1. Yes, they will grow much faster with smaller numbers
2. Can you paraphrase the second question about the risk of too many dying?
3. Yes, better for them to get enough food. Overcrowding will impeded their growth.

After a longer time of nothing special happening I decided to take photos of the little ones again.
They have grown very well and are about 2.5" in length.
The two dominant ones (I still don´t know if female or male?) are flaring their gills every time they get close to each other. Might be impressing behaviour, might be pairing up... I don´t know.



Their coloration could not be any brighter, it is stunning how good they already look.
The pictures are not edited, the bright red fins do really look that way.

Any idea if they will become male or female? The first pic is the one dominant, all others show the other dominant one as you can see by the markings...
