One thing's for sure though...

I can bet you that all residents in that county will be paying their fees well before they're due again :D

then u missed some good points.

Let me put it this way.

Ur electric gets cut off cause you dont pay ur bill. A guy come to shut it off at the meter(yeah thats not how it works i think). You tell him plz dont that youll give him the money for the electric. He has no authority to turn the power back on. YOu have to contact the right people. He tells you no.
Another very well said!

Actually 1 cat and 3 dogs, so that makes their decision even stupider from a PR aspect. Though given their response time the animals were probably dead before anyone got there.

.

Really? Seriously? You think they shouldve risked their lives to go in and grab a cat? a dog? anything short of a human being?

and as for their response time - perhaps theyd have a faster truck if people paid more fees.

I think the firefighters ought to be ashamed of themselves. If i was the homeowner I would file a lawsuit. He lost his pets and his entire life in the house. Even though he did'nt pay the fee the gvt pays firefighters or I should say we ( the tax paying public) pay the firefighters. This is a total outrage. Ths will def not be the last you hear of this story. Fire fighters, and EMTs, and police provide a public services not private so this should not happen.

Not IMO ;)

it's an example sure, but apples to oranges when you start to think about. Shutting off electricty for a few hours poses no threat to life or propery as does as burning house :)

All the more reason to pay the fee. You understand how important your home is right?

No the firefighters should not be ashamed. The guy that thought he'd be clever and not pay the 75 bucks should be ashamed. He tried to beat the system and he lost. Youre saying our taxes pay for the services - in that county the fee pays them. That way non homeowners dont pay for services they would never need.
lets keep in mind people - being a firefighter is also a job. If you disobey your boss at your job could you lose it?

Are you serious man, Im not condoning the fact that they guy did'nt pay for the fee, But as A EMT I cant go on the scene and say to a victim do you pay your health insurance im not going to treat you. Or a police officer saying your an illegal immigrant that dont pay taxes so I'M not going to serve and protect you. They are civil servants bottom line they have a job to do point blank. ITS THIER DUTY TO ACT!!! any firefighter/EMT/COP will tell you that.

I believe you brought "utililty" as a comparision... Whether it's orange or apple, it's the same picture... The guy who comes to shut down your meter is as same as the fire fighters in that article. They have no authority to receive your money, or accept your word that you will pay. They were sent their to provide the service, to do their job. A lot of you guy miss the part about the fire fighters were there for the neighbor house, who paid the fee, not for the burnt house owner.

If you do research, I'm sure you will find out that many years ago, when EMT show up at an accident that happen in incoporate area, they will determine which jurisdiction/city the accident belongs to, and if it's not in their jurisdiction, they won't provide service. It did happen like that, until the law pass that whoever EMT get on the scence first have to provide service.
