I don't think the red moss is moss at all. Willow roots are red, and they love to grow near water. If there is some algae on them, it might appear to be moss. The roots appear to be on the outside of the turn, where water will erode the bank, thus exposing roots.

Wow......ok ,I am now very Impressed !

yes, their is a willow right next to creek.
My grandma planted it when I was in high school.(grad 93)
here are some pics.
I love this willow....unfortunately it was struck by Lightening a few years ago and has a huge rip down the side.
I wish I could help it somehow

They are some type of dace. not a chub.

I feed these to my brothers Jag all the time.
there is a diy minnow trap in the diy section.
you will grab a dozen of these in about 10 minutes w/ a two liter bottle and a little dog food, if you sink it where they are schooling.

What do you mean by some kind of dace? Creek chubs are commonly called dace in some places.

Looks like Semotilus atromaculatus, which is what is commonly called a creek chub.

I'm not master of native fish identification, and it's hard to tell from pics from above in a creek, but they have the black stripe with the light gold stripe above it, plus the roundish body and head, and that's what the creek chubs here look like from above.

I don't think those get over 4 inches long and ddyerfamily mentioned some of the ones in his creek being 8" or more.

I've seen creek chubs a foot long, and plenty of 8 inchers, so that seems more likely.

ddyerfamily, you definately need to catch some and take pics so we can all come to an agreement, lol.
