Now that's a real nice Bass you got there, real nice yes sir. But that Snakehead is just %#*^ing A Awsome. I wish I had a spot for Snakeheads. Then I'd also need a an extra swimming pool to keep my catches in. Again that Snakehead is just AWSOME Nice!!!!

They put herbicides in the water trying to control the hydrilla and O.D. on it and ended up wiping out all the Lily Pads. Some of that area out in the middle was only like 2ft deep and we'd have Bass to 5+ lbs hitting weedless top water lures especially just a bit after first light or before dusk. Hell it was such as great spot in May and early June that didn't matter what you through, you could drag an pop bottle through there 4 or 5 times you get a hit. But, now we've spent four hours on the lake and not more than 5 fish between us.

But I know they'll be back someday, for all the lakes in this developement are connected by large concret pipes some only 2ft across others 4ft~5ft across.

I hate those so called "safe" herbicides.
The state did same thing by much of the Glades outskirts where I fish this summer and though I havent seen any floating dead fish what were canals loaded with PB ,jag, oscars, etc are now barren.

I guess the fish have all moved in to deeper Glades waters and the few fish left like Gars and Mayans are like in a semi zombie state.

They arent biting anything just staying in same areas like zombies.

I imagine in few months they will return . It was certainly the herbicide because in canal here by work which is not near the Glades is still good .

Catch'N Bass gotta love it!

We've done like 63 Bass in 6.5hrs @ this city of Many Lakes area.
Sometimes when the Bass start feeding you can see them going after your lure two and three fish at a time just chasing the lure, we've had a few double headers when that happens.

And there not small fish either.

Here's another example of never knowing what you may catch......Tilapia.

Have you ever caught Mozambique Talipia or Red Devils ?

I have seen them and know their areas but never caught one. No interest in any bait at all regardless of season.

Which part of south Florida you in?

Let me see i don't think I can ever recall seeing a fish that I could ID as a Red Devil anywhere I've ever been in Florida, except a lfs. Mozambique Talipia, would that be the same as a blue Talipia?, if yes but rarely do we ever catch any types of talipia hooked in the mouth. 95% of the time we foul hook them. But once and again we get a few that will hit a swimming bait. Normally when they breeeding or gaurding the nest. Now I seen tons of other species of fish like Oscars etc., I also net Talipias for my dad. So if you see fish you can catch I'd say net them.

I am in Miami .
This is a mozambique by the time the males get this pink face they are as big as medium PB . It might be what you call Blue talipia.
http://myfwc.com/images/Fish/MozambiqueTilapia.jpg

During breeding season they develop huge lips . Its the biggest by far of all the Talipia but I have only seen them in certain area but never caught any.
They are sun heat/worshipping fish like PB more so than other Talipias.

I catch other talipia fairly easy in areas most don't fish with live worms never lures.

This is common red devil usually found by any canal with sand bag type areas .
They seem to like the "step" type areas but in lakes like the one in your pic they are also found but around structures at least under water branches .
As small some confuse them with Miyans but as adults much bigger and unreal bright color usually red or yellow.

The area I used to fish by Glades was full of them though sadly I allways caught Miyans-Oscars-talipia -Jags-PB which is fine but would have loved to catch them. Those 2 fish would never hit a thing .

Either way when they began with the algicide they all left but hope they return in month or 2.
Feel sorry for anyone who came this summer to fish Glades out skirts for exotics.
At least in area's I frequented they are still all gone but thankfully not dead . They simply went deep in Glades waters.

Ok your really in south Florida, southeast. Though I have driven to both Everglades, Miami and Ft. Lauderdale on many occasion I stay much further northwest of you. Sarasota, which is the gulf coast, less storm trouble there. :nilly:

And that maybe one reason I haven't seen red devils, and where I am there are rarely Peacock Bass, or for that matter Oscars. The only time I ever see or catch Oscars is when I drive either through the Everglades via Alligator Alley or when I drive US41 down and around the long way. I have seen Jags and a host of other odd balls including Black Pacu monsters.
