Ford explorers

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have had 2 explorlers a 95' that was fantastic and a 04 that we drive now. I think all the small suv's are dangerous to crash in. The roll over problem was specific to one year and has been addressed. I have found the quality to be excellent.

And you said sport utility right??????
As in good strong fast?wat yr is yours by the way

My Land Cruiser is a '96. It has a 4.5l inline 6. Great, legendary and reliable engine, but it's not a made for speed by any means, at least not in this 6000 lb truck :)

I just got rid of my POS '06 Exploder. It was a v6 too. Nothing but problem after problem plastic hunk of crap. Had 100k miles on it and it was starting to have trans problems, went thru 2 PLASTIC (OEM)radiators and a water pump. The motor itself wasn't bad but Ford is stupid and all the peripheral equipment is trash.
First thing you should do is get an aftermarket transmission cooler. Ford ran the trans lines through an aluminum box in the plastic/aluminum radiator to cool the trans. There have been quite a few people that have lost their trans and found coolant inside. Good luck.

I just got back i went to go take a look at the 2005 4runner sport edition and an 04 gmc envoy xuv i kinda like them but they dont have as much power as my 98 explorer, and they give me less mpg
I think im going to stay with my 98 another 6mnths till i get something faster and stronger

I've been fixing crap like this for years......

I'd never recommend an 4.0L explorer to anyone. They do have an uncanny ability to keep going, but if you have engine troubles it's over. Any engineer building a friggin motor that has a timing chain on the back side of the engine should have his crayons taken away immediately. Piss poor design from the timing chains to the stupid oil pan/ main bearing caps. Have replaced LOTS of radiators.

Envoy same thing. No way. GM has gone down hill a lot over the last decade (from a techs point of view). Grew up on GM and my gf's 06 g6 has made me sour. Spending time in a GM garage recently hasn't helped. But thier 3.8 was one of the best engines ever made hands down.

Myself, I drive a 4.0L Jeep Grand. One of the best motors ever built. I've driven one into the shop with a hole in the block the side of my fist. That's right, still ran. Not a speed demon, not a MPG vehicle but very reliable engine.

Toyotas - Theyre expensive. And should be. Don't break. I worked at one of if not the biggest dealership in N. Iowa and it was a Toyota Dodge strore. 6 Dodge techs, 1 Toyota. Says enough right there.
