Gar Quiz - the return - ID the fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
1. YOY Shortnose gar (just looks like it to me).

2. YOY Xanthic tropical? or just a really light YOY Tropical?

I don't know, those are my guesses :).

#1- yoy shortnose...snout and head strutcture point me to it...

#2- same shortnose gar as the first pic...just yonger and washed out from white container...head and snout have simmilar markings...

for number 2, i originaly was thinking yoy trop washed out, but the head and snout don't look wide enough to be from that sp...idk if it is just from the yoy gars i have looked at, but the one diff i can seem to notice between yoy spotted, floridas and shotnose is that yoy shortnose seem to have a longer snout then yoy spotted or floridas...that has helped me to come up with my geusses from this one...as the shots are "vage" yet idable...

Might want to look up a very indicative trait in Juveniles of the Genus Atractosteus that is not seen in Lepisosteus.

Pic 1 is a nice one BTW where did you find that one Alex? I do not have that one. That's going to be a real tough one for anyone not familiar with these.

remember that the 2 photos are of different fish! i am definately right on the first id(check pm solomon)...second photo, i will wait a while before posting my input since there's a gd chance im right:)

the second pic i have had some flip floping on...idk why, but it is strange...it looks like a yoy trop, but for some reason i keep thinking that it isn't...i feel that the white stripe on the top of the head is something that points to the trop, but i really don't know for sure and am just geussing on it cause i haven't had much exp. with them...i am farely sure on the first id...
